Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No, no, no, I get fajita veggies and beans. I'm looking for calories here. Just the lunch I bring with me to work is about 2200 Calories (three sandwiches, 14 oreos, big bowl of oatmeal in the morning, kudos, granola), and I get home starving.

BTW- Here in San Diego, I always hear it pronounced CHEE POLE TAY.

edit- I just asked a co-worked that speaks fluent spanish and this is how he tells me to say it:
Chi Pot Leh

Chris
Apparently there is no correct way to say this word then.
Look what I've started now...

Lets do this then....no matter how we say it, it's the new Paul Sherwin drinking game Sundays.

Post-ride, I like to get a bol with black beans, veggies, lettuce, mild and corn salsas, guacomole, and light cheese, and if that calculator is right, it all comes to about 600 calories.

Yes, tons of sodium and fat, but also lots of protein – not a bad meal for after a 30-50 miler.

Actually it's the rice, cheese, and sour cream that kill it, not the black beans.Using the above mentioned calories calculator, you can go from 1300 to 500 calories by replacing the rice with fajita veggies, chicken instead of beef, eliminating the cheese and especially the sour cream, and serving it in a bowk instead of the tortilla.

No wonder I'm still fat. I eat about 3-4 of those things a week.

I avoid the whole thing and go to California Tortilla and get one. I like the Chicken Ceasar burritto the best. They got fish tacos too!

The fact that CT is only in the East/MidAtlantic area almost makes up for not having a Sonic or a Whattatbuger within 100 miles of me.

Unlike MickyD Inc, CT is not afeard to post its info. You can pretty much bet that Chiplote is the same, as the size of the burritos are exactly the same.

They opened a new Chipotle on the Upper West Side of Manhattan when I was there over the summer on June 29. The workers still didn't really have any idea what was going on, and neither did the patrons. So people would walk up to the counter and be mystified by the menu and the options. When I walked up and said "Chicken burrito, both kinds of beans, rice, and cheese" the cashier girl got about one word of my order, then questioned if it was possible to get both kinds of beans. Please.

La Bamba is easier to say than Chipotle and they have Burritos As Big As Your Head.

Beware, the line is usually out the door at about 1 am or 2 am. Great stuff when your full up drunk.

On the other hand, Chipotle has never made me throw up. I just got back from a 1400 calorie lunch just now. Including almost 100% of my daily fat allowance. Good thing I'm riding tonight.

Never been to a chipotle but around Christmas a Ca. Tortilla opened up here in SE Pa.

Maybe I'm unamerican but leave the damned rice out of all burritos!!!!

La Bamba just wants to make sure you achieve your optimal climbing weight. They are good like that.

It must be nice to have options. All I have around here is Moe's. I like them, but I have no reference point.

Moe's isn't bad but it does not taste as fresh as Chipotle's

That is how a native Spanish speaker pronounces it, but I believe chipotle is not even Spanish, its an Aztec or some other native american word.

the 'i' is a long -ee and the 'e' is a short e as in eh

so chee - pot - leh - accent on pot

We do not have a Chipotle Restaurant in New Mexico. Not that I know of anyway, it won't survive here as there are far better restaurants of that nature. Best place I think is Chilacas. The vampire sauce (cilantro, lemon, garlic and maybe goat piss) is something else. The Habanero sauce will tear your lips off.

Etymology

The word chipotle, which was also sometimes spelled chilpoctle and chilpotle, comes to English originally from the Nahuatl word chilpoctli by way of Mexican Spanish. The Nahuatl word chilpoctli means "smoked chile", formed from chil (="chile pepper") + poctli (="smoke"). The original Nahuatl word was spelled "pochilli" and has apparently become reversed. Today it is commonly misspelled and mispronounced as chipolte, an error of metathesis. Other early spellings from Mexico are tzilpoctil, tzonchilli and texochilli. The most common pronunciation is chee-POHT-lay, although some prefer the pronunciation chee-POHT-til. Some Mexicans refer to chipotles as chile poctle.

I don't get it. The "T" is before the "L," so why would it be Chip.Ol.Tay?

Hells yes. Whenever I hit the local Chipotle I long for my college days when La Bamba was but a block away. Delicious stuff.

Only the ladies would order the Burrito as Big as Your Head, though. For me, it was always the Burrito BIGGER Than Your Head.

I'll never be as fat as I was in college.
