Eye Protection?
I'm looking out the window here, and I can't believe it's snowing! Yesterday though I had a great ride along Chicago's Lake Michigan bike path. It was sunny and a little cool with a beautiful moon over the Lake a little after dusk. However I encountered an issue that's happened frequently to me.
I find that when it's cold or windy it gets kind of puffy and red around one or both of my eyes, and I look like I have conjunctivitis the next day, especially on the longer rides. I also sometimes have to narrow my eyes severely while riding I guess because of the wind, and it can get pretty uncomfortable.
I use sun glasses ( a cheap brand) and an old pair of yellow glasses (that my son had used speed skating) for low light/ night riding. The issue happens with both. I am not into expensive sunglasses (but willing to buy one pair if it does the trick) and I don't want to spend a lot experimenting around.
Does anyone else have this problem? Did you find something that helps?
thanks!

I generally use less expensive brands of sunglasses but do make sure that they have good protection. I tend not to be able to have a long term relationship with my glasses so expensive brands aren't a good option.
Could it be that the swelling and redness is due to something else - allergy, sinuses or something like that? I tend to think that eye protection is pretty adequate when it protects against wind and particulates.
Just another thought - I've used some "regular" sunglasses when riding and have found that they actually direct air flow at my eyes rather than away from them. Any chance that this is happening?
Hope this gives you something to at least think about - sounds like a bothersome problem.

I have a pair of BodySpec sunglasses that cost $60. They came with three lenses (clear, amber and black), a headband strap and an insulated insert.
In really cold weather you snap in the insulated insert and put the headband on and they become insulated goggles. Pretty awesome as long as you don't stop moving - they start to fog up if you do.
