Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

a nice little article from Salsa about carbon production factories in China. FYI, Salsa doesn't sell full carbon bikes, so I'd like to think that this is unbiased.

The following quote is typical of the bike industry, like it is some secret organization:

I won't name names, but many products and brands were represented including many that I did not expect.

It's not really exclusive to the bicycle industry. There's probably a non-disclosure agreement involved.

Reading the article, sounds like it's only a matter of time until they do...

I still wouldn't buy their bikes, with a name like Salsa, I expect to be served Quesadillas.

You're right, but they compete against companies that do. Therefore, it can bring biasness to an article.

However, it wasn't really the author's opinion. It was more of a "So I went to China and this is what I saw." Interesting none the less.

I think the think I enjoyed most was the insight into how the factories are run. A large portion of Americans still think that Chinese made bikes are welded by 6 year old girls who are forced to work 16 hour days in dirty, dangerous factories. This article, and one I've read from a prominent engineer in BMX have both confirmed this to be false.

I assume you're kidding...
The company started by Ross Schafer Salsa Cycles is legendary.
"In days gone by the Salsa name was associated with legendary American frame builder Ross Schaeffer"

I am, I was looking to buy a Salsa La Cruz but the geometry doesn't fit me, hence I would not buy their bikes yet.

Bikes: Cannondale EVO, CAAD9, Giant cross bike.

My carbon and my partially carbon bikes were not made in China.

You guys would have a heart attack if you knew what expensive and high end stuff comes out of China. Although Taiwan quality has a better reputation. The better bike companies do their best stuff via Taiwan.

I'll start. Guess which company gets their frames from this source? And Merida is top notch, as is the bike company for whom they make frames.

Looks like a Cervelo R3 in that photo. Note the sqoval tube and the flat, wide area where the seat stays attach behind the seatpost.
