Price difference between selling a complete bike vs. frame & fork only

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Price difference between selling a complete bike vs. frame & fork only

I have a complete bike I'd like to sell on but I've gotten a few offers for the frame and fork only.

Assuming I would strip the bike down myself (not sure how easy the headset cups and ISIS crankset would be to remove), what percentage of the complete bike price should I ask for the frame/fork only?

FYI, It's a 2000 Litespeed Saber frame and Reynolds fork. Components are all Ultegra 9 except for the bar end shifters w/c are Dura Ace.

You have eight year old components. They are essentially worth nothing or very little. See the bike as is. It's no worth the effort.

In my opinion the frame is good but a 2000 reynolds fork is not something I would want. You can buy a much better fork now, assuming it's the right length after being cut, for $100 to $200.

I dunno - is this an 8 year old bike that's barely ridden with fairly pristine components or a heavily used rec road bike or even a race bike? That would determine whether or not it's worth it to part it out.

I'd say you'd get more for your parts if you sold the frameset separately.

I'd suggest leaving the headset on there because it's convenient for you and person building it up.

You can probably get decent money for 9 speed ultegra parts on ebay, so go that route.

Verifiable low mileage Ultegra 9 speed is like gold on scambay recently. Even better if DA.

Had pretty much the same question posted on 50+ recently. The majority said to configure the ad with a frame/fork option if that is what you are willing to do also.

Incorrect. Ultegra 9 fetches good money.

Parting out a bike in good condition can often be a wise move.

This will work out well.

Sell each brifter separately, sell RD and fd separately, sell crank+BB together, sell brakes together, sell frameset with headset.

Reason for selling brifters separately is because it's more likely that people have broken one in a crash instead of looking to do a build with one. Just to make sure though, check completed listings on ebay and see which will fetch a higher price.

I find usually that separating brifters ends you up with about the same amount, if not sometimes less. It really depends though.
