Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've used Bullfrog and Coppertone Sport. Both seem to work very well. I used the latter while hiking across the Grand Canyon too. Good stuff and comes in little containers which be attached by carabiner to a backpack or Camelbak. I save those little things and refill from a bigger container.

Did you do a 15-second search before spreading misinformation? According to the official Coppertone FAQ, Coppertone Sport Lotion is not effective against UVA:

There has been some talk lately that sunblocks containing oxybenzone (most commercial lotions) may actually be more of a cancer threat than UV rays. It may be better to use a sunblock made with zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. We do need vitiman D and the best way to get it is from the sun, so I only wear sun screen if I'm out all day and at risk of burning.

I use NewCo sunblock which is a company based out of Calgary.

Our search for just the right sunscreen is an ongoing process. We've starting using this, made by California Baby:

Some things in its favor:
  • No harmful chemicals
  • Natural ingredients
  • Good for sensitive skin
  • A California company (we buy local when we can)

A little goes a long way, too.

EDIT: Here's a website that ranks sunscreens for their safety and effectiveness.

How does this product go on to the skin, is it smooth, colorless and does it stay on fine while sweating? I recall using other titanium dioxide based products on my nose and they usually stained the skin white and were a pain to wash off.

That website by the way makes it sound like 99% of th products out there are not good at all.

it goes on smooth, but it's pretty white. It blends in pretty quickly, however.

I have a heck of a time finding it as well. It used to be at Target but then the shelf was always out of stock. I recently found it at CVS and stocked up for the Summer. The stuff in the white bottle is crap, but the blue bottle is awesome! Even better now that I know a pale redhead approves.
Two pale thumbs way up.

It smells a lot nicer than Coppertone too.

I don't know whats going on with me. I love to ride in blue skies. But, after four months of summer riding, I have noticed these past two summers; I seem to have some kind of reaction to the sun. No sunblocks seems to work. / I get these open sores that don't heal. They sort of itch. I get a couple on my legs where they directly face the sun. / As soon as Fall weather returns they go away after about two months. / What is going on. I have a huge collection of sunscreens of different formulas. Nothing seems to stop the summer problem. / Maybe I should appreciate Winter riding.
If it were not some kind of sun poisoning and something more serious , why would they go away when Summer goes away. ?

I've been happy with the plain old Coppertone Sport 15 goop. I am not a redhead, but I don't tan... I just burn, and the Coppertone Sport is the one sunblock that actually seems to perform as advertised, and doesn't seem to require a lot of re-applying.

I think 8 would probably be sufficient for most days, though.

Without a doubt, Bullfrog is an excellent product and it's all i use now. I have been using it for years while surfing. Your really get exposed to the sun and the water reflection makes it even worse. Using this product i have never had a sun burn and this is while being out in the water for hours at a time.

I use the coppertone sport spray lotion. I was surprised at how effective it was since I usually burn pretty easily. This just sprays on, easy to reapply, if needed and will not run or get in your eyes at all. Thanks to the link above, here's the link to the stuff I use:

https://www.coppertone.com/detail_sp_30cspray.aspx

I see there's a new SPF 50 too.

I should say I tried the Banna Boat similar stuff and had the same results. It seems I'd always miss a spot with convential lotion but have not yet with this.

I've used many. In my opinion they all work fine for at least a few hours in the sun. But I'm always looking for one that won't sting my eyes terribly when I sweat. I haven't found one yet. I now avoid putting sun block on my forehead or around my eyes.

Exactly, besides, its cheating to use sun block. People can't tell how many hours your put on the bike if you don't have the tell-tale fish belly white belly and dark-dark tan starting mid bicept and mid thigh. Those are the guys to mark in a race.

Try using the spray I linked to. It supposedly gets absorbed into the skin and therefore, doesn't get into the sweat dripping off your skin. It seems to last forever (at the 3 hours or so I normally ride) and is considered "ultra water proof" or some such thing.

I use the strongest block I can find, but I have to. I'm not allowed out in the sunlight. I burst into flames.. or get cancer. Something like that. UV has a bad reaction with the anti-rejection meds I take.

I recently picked up some Neutrogena Active for my face. I definitely got some salty, sunscreen-y sweat in my eyes. I also think it's from the silica. I also think it felt really oily when applying versus Coppertone. I like the Coppertone sport for my body, only it isn't that effective around the collar--I think it rubs off easily. I am still on the hunt for a good sweatproof product for my face which needs higher spf protection than the rest of me.
