Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Critical Mass, if you consider that as a sort of peloton (which it's not). Chicago Critical Mass has 500-1000+ riders every month, and I bet some cities have bigger ones.

As far as professional races go, nearly all races have well over 100 riders on the start list - usually 160ish.

Budapest had a CM (Critical Mass) in excess of 22,000 (yes, thousand) not too long ago.

It makes the US Critical Mass (plural) seem pathetic.

EDIT: Quick search on Google - estimates between 24k and 30k in number. But, again, this is not a peloton.

I hope they do staggered starts on that one. If not - what a mess! The Palm Springs century is anywhere from 8-10,000. The freds would just be piling up if there wasn't one.
