Some of you need to consider moving to nicer neighborhoods.
On most of my rides there's no honking, shouting, throwing, hitting, or any of that sort of behaviour from any of the vehicles that go by. My father and I did a 200 km brevet on Saturday, and there were no vehicle incidents at all the whole way around. There were vehicles going by, but they gave us room, and left us alone.
On the odd occasion a driver might honk his/her horn or shout something, but it's rare.

^I live on Metro DC, the Nation's Capital of emotionally disturbed persons. They don't throw stuff, but many people show their aggrivation by buzzing you. A minority, but they have a presence nevertheless.
It must be somehow calming or therapudic to scare the carp out of someone on a bicycle.

I have never been hit by anything, but I have had quite a few people honk unnecessarily.

I voted no. I've only been cycling for 3 years but haven't had anything I'd call intentionally threatening occur. No yelling, nobody throwing anything, and no threatening near misses with cars/trucks/semi's. Don't get me wrong, I have seen idiots turn in front of me failing to yield but I wouldn't rate that as threatening, just stupid.

here is a link to what happened on our ride this morning.
This made me so mad. Worse thing is it was about 5 km into the ride, tunred around and saw another rider down with a neckbrace, ambo's etc on the way back to the cafe.

F-wits everywhere.

One jerkwad in my neighborhood must derive pleasure from cutting off cyclists because all the neighborhood bicyclists complain about him.

I've been riding around philly for about 6 years. It is rare or never that I am "harassed" beyond someone yelling something harmless like "get off the road."

There was lots of carnage, but I have not heard if anyone has anything broken.
It was f-cking stupid. He pulled in about 2-3 car lengths in front of us doing about 60kmph.

I was third wheel on the right so I just flicked out into the traffic without looking I spose???? the girls (Michelle Ferris, Sally Cowman and Katie Nichols from what I can remember) were about 5-6th wheel and they went down pretty hard or hit the car.

Ben Kersten busted his LOOK and had to go to the chiro. Could screw with Beijing chances...
Michelle Ferris' bike is totalled. She said she hit her chin on the car.
Katie Nichols is apparently (and understandably) pretty shaken up.
Not much else to be gleaned from the paper.
Did you know about the semi coming in from behind?

no I didn't know about the car from behind, i looked back towards the gutter going around the car to see if anyone was going to hit it. fark knows how far wide i went, but i'd say maybe just into the next lane, if any at all.
Ben pretty much got up and rode straight home, he's only a few blocks from where it happened. His kit looked pretty scuffed up. M Ferris hit the back windscreen of the car, she had a giant tcr and both wheels were fecked. Not sure about the frame though. Sally hit the deck and looked pretty shocked as she is getting over smashing her head about 1 year ago in a similar thing.
God know's how kenny nichols feels or Katie? She might pack it in now?
It was a gun metal grey mid 90's falcon (el maybe?) I have the rego number and colour typed into my phone. I got a pretty good look at the driver too. We were definetly in one (the inside) lane on a section the is 3 wide in both directions, it's a slight downhill so some guys may have been drifting out a little, but still with-in the lane no worries.
Heaps went down and had decent scrapes to be honest. I've been a bit burnt out and with the recent rain lost a fair bit of motivation, then got that euro flu going round. Heaps stoked to ride now.

I still can't understand how someone can place 30 seconds of their life (and i doubt that it would even be that long), over someone else's life. I really hope they string him up by the nuts.
Time to start riding track eh?

Hope she doesn't - it'd be a shame to see someone bail because of two moronic drivers.

I'm as mad as hell
Anyone who knows anybody who was hurt or damaged in that incident tell them to PM me.
The Civil Liability Act that limits damages for Torts in NSW does not apply to an intentional tort which is what this road rage was.
That idiot can be sued and damages even if small will be awarded, plus legal costs.
The kicker is he/she is uninsured for those sorts of actions so it won't be paid by an insurer and must come out of their pocket.
A criminal penalty is one thing, and some dopey magistrate might let them off with a warning - that's happened before. Getting sued by 20 people or more might make a few motorists take notice.
Heck I'll do it for free!!!!
Only last week on my usual Satdee morning Eastern suburbs La Perouse ride some goose in green P's tried to "teach me a lesson" by pushing me out of the bike lane then near Centenniel Park some idiot red P driver blew her horn at my cycling companion because he had the temerity to use the road in front of her.
Further to this damages thing, to make myself clear:
1. Punitive damages are available in australia and in NSW - they're just not covered by any insurance policy sold here and judges award it all the time
2. What's called special damages for cost of replacement of damaged bike, clothes and parts, time off work that is still available.
3. Pain and suffering for bruises and cuts were taken away by the Civil Liability Act because ambulance chasers were putting in $2,000 claims against councils for people who stubbed their toes on curbs and making $8,000 in costs on those dodgy little claims. So the rule is now you have to be 15% of most extreme case before you get your pain and suffering. BUT s3B(1) excludes the CLA where the injury was intentional.
What that driver did was intentional, so CLA doesn't apply and everyone hurt can all bring separate individual claims for the loss or damage from pain and suffering claims .
4. You may also qualify for punitive damages if you can establish it was road rage, and heck it sure looks like it to me!
I'M REALLY CRANKY ABOUT THIS
