Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dura-Ace shifter noise

I'm hearing a loud (comparably) click on my DA right shifter when I release the brake lever... On my left it's almost silent... If I wasn't listening to my left shifter I wouldn't even notice it (had to put ear to shifter) - but my right is really loud. It seems to be a spring issue since it suddenly just clicks at a constant release displacement - at about 1/4 release (I tried moving the shifter as slow as possible and as fast/rapid as possible to see if the noise could be eliminated some how, but always obtained a sudden "click" at the same area).

This is not during shifting, only braking... My shifters are on the bars but are NOT attached to any wiring so I'm 100% sure it's from the shifter mechanism.

Any experiences? Is this normal for D/A? Troubleshooting tips?

Thanks in advance,

It's not normal, are you sure it's the shifter and not the brake caliper or cable or housing?

When was the last time you replaced the brake cable and/or housing?

way to read the post, bdcheung.

OP: hook everything up and see if that gets rid of the noise. I'm 80% sure I know what's causing the noise, and 100% sure that if that is the cause, running cables will eliminate it.

But you gave me the opportunity to be pedantic! It was much appreciated.

there's the cable end retainer that might need to be pushed down. It pops up and hits the ceiling sometimes.
or even the data cable?
