Hi, for the price..... do you think the new ultegra sl shifters are almost the same than dura-ace... The look is pretty good with this ice-grey??

For the price, no question that Ultegra is better. Dura Ace is significantly more expensive and Ultegra works really well. But, if you have the money, DA is lighter, probably slightly better performing, and and more bling.

Anyone been able to tell any difference between Ultegra and Ultegra SL in any respect other than colour and logo etching? I know they're "lighter" components, but I'm talking about real world differences.

What about Sram Red and Ultegra? One of my team mates just upgraded on a bike he bought just last year from Ultegra to Sram Red. He says he notices a difference but I find it kind of hard to beleive.

I would think that the ice grey or black 105 would be most fitting for a dark ninja.

Maybe, maybe not. When Shimano pay me the difference to use DA then I will. Until then I'll probably stick with Ultegra. DA is lovely stuff, but I never ever wish my bikes were equipped with it because it would make absolutely no difference to my enjoyment of them. For an extra 50% on top of the price of an Ultegra groupset, I would want that something extra. Fair play to those who shell out for DA though.

If you've ridden DA, you've felt the metallic crispness of those shifters. Then you hop on Ultegra and they're good -- but they don't have that little bit.
Ultegra SL has that little bit (i.e. they feel like DA, not ultegra)

Some would say that's a jump of two full component levels, so hopefully, you'd notice the difference. It might be more appropriate to compare Ultegra to Force or Rival.

Good to know, thanks kudude. I've never ridden them but saw them at an LBS today. I also "tried" Force for the first time today. That double tap concept is good! Weird at first but ruddy clever and intuitive after a while I guess.

I opted for SL and put the difference in price towards a better set of wheels.
I have full Ultegra and full SL on two of my bikes. I can't telll them apart in terms of function.

Ulterga SL makes no sensce to me. It like having a $7.5 bill, when a 5 and a 10 are all you need. It would make more since just to mix regular Ultegra and Dura Ace.

I got Ultegra SL shifters and derailleurs with 105 casette and chain(they were actually about the same weight as Ultegra, go figure) because it is what I could afford. If I had $200 more dollars or so, I would have gotten Dura Ace.
Personally, I'm a big fan of breaking down the groups and buying whats worth it and ditching whats not. So I would probably go with Dura Ace Shifters and derailleurs, 105 casette and chain(they function the same and are about 40 grams more between the two). Cane Creek SL dual pivot brakes and the Fulcrum Racing Torq R cranks.

IMHO You should stay away from that off-brand stuff like Dura Ace. You'll only have problems.
Get yourself a Campagnolo gruppo and wheelset and you'll be happy.

Interesting that one person notes a real-world difference between Ultegra and SL, and one does not. Interesting also that the one who does not actually owns both at the same time. Could it be placebo effect again?

Remember the Audi 5-cylinder engines? Better horsepower than a 4, better gas mileage than a 6. Funny, they never mentioned the obverse; worse power than a 6, worse gas mileage than a 4.
