Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Agreed. In this case, I absolutely had to have the Thomson. But the 10 degree would have put the angle up from the top tube to a greater degree than the 17 is down. Plus I would have had to cut the steerer tube to the headset to get the height correct. In the end, I chose this route.

Bikes: LOOK 595 Ultra/Campy Record 10Sp, restored Guerciotti/Campy C-Record 6 Sp, TIME RXR/Campy SR 11Sp, and Colnago C-60 with Campagnolo SR 11sp.

Very gorgeous bike. One of the few I find stand out in terms of looks. The fork do look weird for the rest of the bike, and I personally don't like the 2 tone cable and tape job, but those are very personal things. Regardless, the bike looks very very nice. A friend of mine got the new black Orbea TT and that thing is so hot. Of course, he killed the whole thing by putting Shingamo-mangano components in it rather than fit it with Campy. In retrospect, I should have run him over with the car just for that.

In any case, very nice bike.

This photo was taken from a previous shoot. Todays shoot was with a different lighting setup for the Orca but you might recognize the wall.

The bike was heard saying during the shoot: "Todd, are you not aware that I get farty and bloated with a foamy latte?!?!?!?"
Then it walked off the set. Prima donna.

I'm digging the white/black bar tape. I'm tempted to do that to my bike now.

That pinarello is the most beautiful road bike i've ever seen. I'll be bidding, but i doubt i'll be able to afford what it will get up to.

Bikes: 09 Orbea Orca

Very sweet bike Rad, I missed this thread in my little vacation from bike forums.

Just got my Orca the other day as well, I also chose to add some red to the front end, just in another way!

Sorry for the crappy pic. . . . . ..

This should become the show us your Orca thread!

Bikes: Orbea

I live in the same town as Orbea-USA and there are a lot of Orbea’s here…..I have owned two of them myself………Competitive Cyclist is also a LBS of mine. Orbea’s are very pretty bikes and the Orca is the top dog but bang for your buck there are better bikes out there. If you want a bling bike it is hard to be an Orca. If you want performance for the money it cost to buy an Orca get something else.

I did notice the Thomson seat post…….that was a good thing. Orbea’s come with the worst seat posts in the world. They have a metal bracket that with grooves that lock in with carbon grooves in the seat post. It takes less than a year to wear out the carbon groves and you have to get a new post.

Sorry to keep bringing this old thread back but I wanted to address the comments made above....

First, the frame, group and wheels were all used when I got them. Hardly used, but still used. Total cost to build this bike as photographed was right around $2700. Of course, it took the better part of 6 months to source the deals but it was well worth the work and time.

Sadly, I no longer have this bike. When I lost my job last year, it was the first to go and in retrospect, I wish I had kept it. I LOVED riding this bike. But I couldn't deny the resale value - I actually made money on it. And I know there will always be other bikes...
