Your Vacation This Summer
(apologies to the southern hemisphere folks here ... but maybe you're taking a vacation in the next few months too ... you've got good weather in winters down there!
)
Are you taking a summer vacation this year?
Where are you going?
Are you bringing your bicycle?

I'm a "southern hemisphere folk" in the northern hemisphere... where do I fit? :-P
Nope, although with 58 paid vacation days accrued I really should.

Already did California in Feb, a little over a week of cycling.
I'll do the Northeast mountains in late August/early September.

Going to the Smokies again - this time with my road bike. Last year we had only our cruisers and after seeing the 25 mile up-hill road to Cades Cove I was miffed that I didn't have it. The ride back down will be friggin' great - theres a 180 hairpin.
The 11 mile Cades Cove loop is a fun ride. It's a single lane, one-way road that is closed to traffic Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Cars can be bumper to bumper all the way around in high season.

Yes, but staying close to home in Colorado. One week of backpacking and another week off to get in some cycling and kayaking. We will probably go to separate areas of the state for each trip. It's great to live in a destination area.

South Padre Island for a week of family fun in the sand, drinking beer and no bike.

I took my single speed( no need for a geared bike in Fl) with me to south Florida and Miami for 2 weeks. It was great, nice roads, nice people, great weather. I even caught up with a group road ride while there, and rode 35 miles with them. Inlcuding their "big hill" which was some little bridge.

There is a very good Italian restaurant on the mainland side of the causeway.
Have a Lonestar at the Dolphin Cove for me...

That place is great. We have stayed at the Holiday Inn in the beach tower, fourth floor, Gulf side. Listening to the surf roll in all night is amazing.

I had one of my vacations back in February -- I went to Australia for a little over 2 weeks, and did an 8-day cycling tour, in addition to other sight-seeing, etc.
But if all goes well, I'm hoping to do a pseudo-cycling tour in late August in Alberta and BC. We'd camp, we'd spend a few days cycling around the area ... we'd drive to the next spot and camp, we'd spend a few days cycling around the area, etc.

Yes.
Going to Georgia and NC for a week in August. Then, going to spain for nearly 2 weeks starting at the end of Sept.
I am bringing my bike for both. The Georgia part I will likely do solo as it is for climbing mostly (I do royally suck at it), but will go "look around" too. Same for NC. The Spain trip is a family trip but organized around riding from Portugal all the way to Barcelona along the coast. Should be good.

Really, really looking forward to the riding (and living) there. Not sure how I'll handle the snow.

I'm going to The Outer Banks tomorrow, for one week. Hell yes I'm taking the bike! I've been so frickin' busy at work lately that I haven't had too much time to ride. Flat as a pancake, but beautiful nonetheless.

I aim for at least a month every year, and I've been doing that regularly since ... hmmm ... about 2002, I think, and most years before that since ... I was born.

It's tough when you own a business with only one employee. I am starting to think the best bet is to close the shop for a week or two a year. Otherwise I just end up having deal with the shop stuff while I am on vacation because inevitably a bunch a stuff happens when I take off that only I can deal with.

Well, sort of. We'll be working for Habitat for Humanity
Musicians' Village, New Orleans. We'll be turning this:

into this:

No. Luggage will be as light and as little as possible. I'll probably have lots of tools that will be needed. As crazy as it sounds, I'm very much looking forward to this adventure!

Mid September I'll be in Tahoe for 9 days...yes I'm taking my bike, both road and mountain. Whether or not the MTB gets used or not, it's going just in case. I am absolutely, without question, completely out of shape right now
Just starting to get back in the saddle on my new C'dale and looking forward to a severe thrashing of the guts and limbs. At least I have several months to prepare. Don't know exactly what I'll be doing as far as rides are concerned other than the notion of traveling the shoreline in a day. Dunno what that's going to encompass fitness wise but I need a goal and that's what I'm shooting for right now. 72 miles of shoreline...who knows how many miles of actual in the seat time to do it.
Some pics from '06...Thumbys...you know what to do with them
