Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tour of Pennsylvania - Pics

I've been lurking for awhile so thought I'd contribute finally.

Enjoy some pics from Stage 1 of the Tour of PA (www.tourofpa.com). This was a 30 mile crit (20 x 1.5 mi.) through Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. The crit kicked of at 6:30pm (the tour started this morning with a 2.18 mi time trial). The boys were flying!

Both riders walked away seemingly unharmed from the crash below. Crash happened on the sharp first turn off a long, flat straightaway - about 120 degrees.

Good pics, thanks for sharing.

That crash looks nasty - good to hear the riders are ok.

Someone take pics and post please Unless something happens I won't see a single stitch of the race But I will be in the lead (trooper) car. Look for the really stressed guy with a red shirt and a laptop, GPS, and radio on his lap.

I think just a highlight show on VS is what will be on....hopefully it isnt the Rock Racing crew that is doing the coverage.

I'm going to watch Stage 5 live along some scenic roads.

No Rock Racing, just VS folk at the race, but I haven't seen VS here so I don't know what the show will be like. Highlights the day after I guess, with the Sunday race (a crit) live in the evening.

They rolled out today 10 miles from my home but I was here at work instead. I know several guys in the race, there's some fast young guns in it. Very good for the sport and PA

Rider #85 took too much speed into the turn and just wiped out on his own. If you can see in the pic, there seemed to be alot of grit/gravel so maybe that contributed. Only guy to wreck with him was #53 who went over his bars. Amazing really because they were both in the middle of a large group.

Volunteered as a Course Marshall for both Pittsburgh stages. I don't expect to see much on Saturday, but Sunday's circut race will provide more than enough viewing to make up for it.
