Not bad. But whoever built your front wheel put the valve hole in the wrong spot.

Not possible, it's radial...I built the wheels.

The angle of the pic made it look like they're crossed and that the valve is not between parallel spokes.

Hot trek

I built one of those 5.9s for a customer a few months back and marvelled at how pretty the finish was. He came back recently and it was marked up all over. Be warned that matte white shows everything and is a real bugger to clean.

not hot for me - i've never been a fan of the sloping top tube, and combine that with an exact matching angle for the stem/bars - it looks like you're riding a big sloping plank. color scheme and the rest is great though. just personal preference i guess.

Not for me. I'm with Sci guy here. In my eyes, this frame needs a -10deg. I would also prefer to see one color brake cable, Blk or white, but would be best in black IMO. Black chain rings. It might be an optical illusion, but the seatpost looks larger in diameter than the frame it sits on.

Don't like that many Treks. Your bike is HOT...

You do realize it has to fit me and not just look good, yeah? I agree it needs black rings but when i got the SRM those grey rings were all i had around.
As for the seat post, it's a Trek...it's a seat mast CAP so it is larger because it fits over the frame.

You do realize this is the Hot -r-Not and it is all about how a bike looks, yeah? :p

I completely understand, fit is most important. I'm just judging off of how it looks aesthtically. I have been labled the "Simon Cowell" of the Hot-r-Not thread. I used to be very blunt with my judgements, but have tried to lighten it up lately. Your bike is not ugly in any shape or form. The things I pointed out are just things that stick out to me when I look at it. As for the seatpost cap, I didn't know that was something Trek did. I am a known Trek "Hater" here. It is VERY rare that I find a Trek to be appealing. I have seen a handful, but they are a rare case.

In that case, I'm honored to have received an overall thumbs up from you. Thanks man! On the new Madone frames I think the paint scheme makes a huge difference in how they look...my boss has an all black frame and it looks really boxy and chunky. The general consensus from customers that see our bikes in the shop is that mine looks less boxy. I guess it's the bike version of 'chunky' people not wearing horizontal stripes.

the trek is pretty hot. the opera is pretty hot, but it i'd like it better if it had matching blue handlebar tape

I like it, even with the web advert. One question: why the long r der cage? Running a compact or a big cassette? Looks like a 135BCD so not a compact.

Also, campy pro fit pedals: cool! I used to sell those (rarely) to folks building *full campy* bikes. Back in a good old days of alloy shifting paddles on the ergolevers.

I'm also not a Trek fan but this is a good looking bike. At least lukewarm anyway! I'd also love to know what these bikes cost... Good sir, would you be willing to tell us how much $ you have in this bike? If not, I understand.

FPSDavid 08-13-13 12:53 PM

With everyone else on the Trek. Not bad, for a Trek that is.

Well...what I pay for bike stuff and what retail is are very different. If someone wanted to build one like this, i could break it down.

Frame: $1900.00 includes brakes
Wheels: $3000.00 roughly
Red group: $5650.00 everything including bars, stem, saddle, pedals and SRM

Total: $10,548.00
But it could be built for less. That's just adding up retails on everything. I had the wheels and extra bits. I ordered the frame (frame set, post, bb, seat mast, headset) from Trek, the parts from SRAM. Being a team and shop mechanic I've got access to some stuff.

What wheels are those that cost $3000? That's more than Zipps or Enves, and they look like an old narrow shape?

Wow.

However, I wasn't asking how much it sold for retail, as you say, most people don't pay full retail. I'm just wondering how much $ you had in it. It's a nice frame, don't get me wrong. A great bike I'm sure. It's just fascinating to me to see how much people have in their bikes vs what they are getting.

Here, I'll post one of mine. Yes, it's been posted before but as to this question.

This is a 2008 Felt F2 w full Dura Ace group set, Mavic Kysyrium SL wheels and Michelin ProRace3 tires. Weighs in at 15.2 lbs with Speedplay pedals installed. I bought it used on CL and after all of my upgrades have about $1,500 in it.

Doesn't hold a candle to yours, but a few dollars less as well...
