+1 for not upgrading the body right now. (23 yr pro) T3i is a great little camera and should do all that you need. And for me, I'd recommend buying used if you aren't already. POTN is a great source for good used Canon gear… In fact, if you are patient and find a decent deal, you can easily buy your primes, shoot with them for a while and sell them at little to no cost to you.

Hot. Even though I'm not crazy about the color combo.

That's kind of the aesthetic of those Colnagos. That bare carbon/blue-white fade is one of the more subdued schemes and I've seen that frame in person, and it's really nice.
Personally, I would love to own that bike. It's got an old school flavor but still contemporary.
The rider on the top tube is an odd graphic but the entire bike is pretty in that custom airbrush style.

The truly ugly Colnagos are the C-stay bikes, now those looked stupid new and even more pointless and stupid now.

are those Super Six forks?

Nice, this was my favorite color scheme of this style Colnago. I think Rabobank used the orange one?
This was just before they used those gimmicky and ugly vagina chainstays

Paint looks a little dated, but has that hand sprayed charm. I think it looks great, and probably have even more retro cool factor as it gets older

Caad10 is close. Bars are rotated forward to much for my liking and you really need to get a wireless computer because that looks awful. I feel like it really needs some black crank arms too.

So I photographed my buddy's bicycle today. I figured it would be perfect for this thread. What do you guys think?

I think 5700 is fine stuff...but a bit under spec'ed for that bike. I like the choice of rims on yours.

Raiden 12-15-14 12:23 AM

Your buddy's bike is rad of course, the matching cranks and brakes are a nice touch to break up the black. The red stripe on the 3T seatpost is about the only thing out of place aesthetically. Your bike is his bike's nerdy sidekick :)

bmcphx 12-15-14 02:08 AM

The anodized red stuff looks stupid.

Not

WhyFi 12-15-14 07:21 AM

I think that the Super 6 is a nice looking bike, but the bike is soft (out of focus). Looking at the grass/straw/needles/whatever on the ground, it looks like you're front focused and the plane of focus ends somewhere around the depth of the front wheel. (Yes, your photography is being graded on a curve ;) )

What, no comment on the poor lighting on his own bike (the hotter of the two if you ask me), or the awkward gear selections?

I have got to say that the Rotor crank arms and Q rings are WAY over branded. Much too busy.

wedgeSG 12-16-14 03:46 AM

Nice to see stuff on a 3/4 angle instead of 2D dead flat against a door ....frame filled or not. May be the established norm but really the pose is a bit passe'

It's not merely a norm, it's control. Of course 3/4 views, scenic, soft focus backgrounds etc. makes for prettier pictures, but that's not the point. The flat garage door pose allows us to judge the bikes fairly.
