Commuter bike or not, that is an eye sore in my opinion. Understand the desire to make it brighter for safety sake, but those colors clash about as bad as colors could clash. There are other ways to make a bike visible. The geometry of this set up is not attractive either. If it works for you, then it works for you. Aesthetically speaking though, that is one of the ugliest set ups I've seen in a long time. very surprising to me considering the set up and condition of the venge vias you mentioned was yours.

I'm sure the bike itself is great, but like your commuter bike above, the geometry and set up just isn't appealing to me at all. stock or not, it doesn't do it for me at all. It could have 60mm deep dish wheels and it still wouldn't help in my opinion. Dont mind the color combo though.

I am also in the meh camp on this bike. It has nothing wrong with it; quality build; well made frame, etc. But for me, a stock bike built with Ultegra, and one that is a Giant, just has no sex appeal or does it engender the "I really want that bike!" emotion for me. Nothing against the owner or his/her choices. Just not mine.

lolz to the people dissin' the free $4100 team bike for the Cat 2 racer.

It's defacto hot BECAUSE it's a free $4100 team bike for a Cat 2 racer.

Ugly is always ugly, no matter the price.

Oh silly me, I forgot that another name for the Road Cycling Forum is the Ridiculous Hyperbole Forum.

I get free custom CF frames(built to my specifications) from a local builder, so a free pop out bike from Giant is no big deal to me.

WhyFi 01-30-17 08:31 AM

Being free might make something more appealing to the recipient, but I don't see why it's of any consequence to anyone else.

Cat 2, Cat 1 or Pro line up even and it wouldn't change how I feel about the bike. He could be riding next to Sagan in the final sprint of the TDF for all I care, I dont find the bike "AESTHETICALLY" pleasing. That's a personal opinion. I'm not stating a fact, other than the facts that lead to my opinion. I always find it interesting that there are some folks that put a hot on the price tag or good deal rather than how a bike actually looks. Meanwhile there are actual hot bikes that come through here and get nothing but a hard time and torn apart simply because of the cost. I've seen some incredibly sexy $700 road bikes and some absolutely horrible looking $10k bikes. The sole reason for this thread is judge a bike on its appearance, not the good deal someone got or how much someone spent. If you choose to believe that these 2 bikes are Hot, then keep on keepin on brotha.

I would also imagine that the "free" team bike was not in fact free (I could be wrong here), but more of a heavy team discount.

No need to throw a tantrum as if you were in 4th grade. You can't seem to comprehend the purpose of this particular thread. Dont confuse this judgmental THREAD with the entire forum. Many a people have gotten their butt hurt in this thread and you just happen to be another added victim to the list. The funny thing here is that it isn't even your bike...

SpeshulEd 01-30-17 08:39 AM

I'm just enjoying the fact that everyone seems to get their panties in a wad when someone says negative things about their bike.

velociraptor 01-30-17 08:40 AM

Oh dear, I think I may have upset the natives...

It's OK, I promise :)

But what makes this funny is that his panties are wadding up over a bike that isn't even his.

Nobody here is upset I promise you that, myself included. You made a comment and I simply responded.

Yes, I know I was stupid to challenge the status quo of this thread as asserted by the 3 or 4 posters who live on it - My mistake!

Move along, nothing more to see here. :thumb:

lsberrios1 01-30-17 08:57 AM

I am pretty happy with my bikes, i think that's what really matters. I intended for the Roubaix to be hiddeous. Just a way to have fun and a conversation piece. I think it looks like **** but super cool to go ride in the snow, mud and rain.

That being said, i have some sexy s works but if I had to race a bike it'd be the giant... which i do. Giants are very underestimated in my opinion.

You give yourself too much credit in saying that you were challenging the status quo. You stated a position that wasn't rationalized very well and people disagreed with it. Get over it.

"Free bikes are HOT, durrr."

Yup, that's shaking the foundations of HRN.

Regarding your er, colorful Specialized Commuter:

Ok, you have plenty of hot bikes (those that read this thread know this) so that other than your steerer tube being left uncut, I absolutely love it. It's so incredibly awful that it works really well, but only because I kind of know you on here. Knowing someone and who they are and what their other bikes are makes me love this insanely hideous one, so I'ma vote HOT here.

And btw, thanks for sharing the info on your team, that's really interesting to me as well, even though I will never race and have no desire to race. Now if I could figure out how to borrow a pair of really strong legs to replace my Spongebob legs... hmm...

PepeM 01-30-17 10:48 AM

I think my new bike is hot.

I demand that all of you agree.

WhyFi 01-30-17 10:54 AM

What pedals are those - some A530 or clones? Do flats work alright on the opposite side? I think that I should get something like those for the gravel bike.

PepeM 01-30-17 10:58 AM

They are A530s, yes. The flat side is too slippery for normal shoes, might be ok with some grippier shoes. Also, when riding with regular shoes, the saddle feels too high. I put those one because that's all I had available but they will probably go away soon.

NOT. Downtube shift levers are not lined up properly. Sorry.

You have something in common with your pedals, I guess.
