Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yes, I know I was stupid to challenge the status quo of this thread as asserted by the 3 or 4 posters who live on it - My mistake!

Move along, nothing more to see here.

I am pretty happy with my bikes, i think that's what really matters. I intended for the Roubaix to be hiddeous. Just a way to have fun and a conversation piece. I think it looks like **** but super cool to go ride in the snow, mud and rain.

That being said, i have some sexy s works but if I had to race a bike it'd be the giant... which i do. Giants are very underestimated in my opinion.

You give yourself too much credit in saying that you were challenging the status quo. You stated a position that wasn't rationalized very well and people disagreed with it. Get over it.

Regarding your er, colorful Specialized Commuter:

Ok, you have plenty of hot bikes (those that read this thread know this) so that other than your steerer tube being left uncut, I absolutely love it. It's so incredibly awful that it works really well, but only because I kind of know you on here. Knowing someone and who they are and what their other bikes are makes me love this insanely hideous one, so I'ma vote HOT here.

And btw, thanks for sharing the info on your team, that's really interesting to me as well, even though I will never race and have no desire to race. Now if I could figure out how to borrow a pair of really strong legs to replace my Spongebob legs... hmm...

What pedals are those - some A530 or clones? Do flats work alright on the opposite side? I think that I should get something like those for the gravel bike.

They are A530s, yes. The flat side is too slippery for normal shoes, might be ok with some grippier shoes. Also, when riding with regular shoes, the saddle feels too high. I put those one because that's all I had available but they will probably go away soon.

As far as Giants being underestimated - aren't they the largest bike manufacturer in the world? I dunno - I think they've got a lot of engineering and QC behind them and a Giant is towards (at?) the top of my still-hypothetical list to replace the Xenith. I don't find the current colorways terribly flattering, but I don't at all question how good they are.

Well if you're not going to use them...

When you say that the flats are slippery with normal shoes, are you talking dress/casual shoes or are you talking athletic shoes?

Well yes and no. In the grand scheme of things, yes that is all that matters. I know you ride a lot and have many bikes, all of good quality. Your venge vias is one of the nicest ones I've seen. Probably my top 3 vias bikes to be honest. But, the set up of that venge looks nothing like your giants. I'm assuming it's because the geometry is SO different. Two completely different animals. No need to tell you this because you've been around long enough, but as you know this thread is simply abiut aesthetics. Pure judgment of how a bike looks regardless of it works for someone or if they are fully happy with it. Certainly didn't mean any disrespect or mean to offend. The Giants just don't do it for me as all. Venge Vias....totally different story and am a fair bit jealous that it isn't mine.

Oh no! I didn't take it as an offense at all. I know it's not the hottest thing on the block. Like you said, I have bikes that are hot and others that aren't. I could make them all hot if I wanted to but some of them are just practical or even just a fun kind of project. The roubaix I love, not because it's hot but because it's definitely something different.

To be honest the most beautiful bike I own in my eyes is the Tarmac. I am probably going to sell the Venge somewhere in the Future as it is not a custom build. It's my favorite bike but I plan on building the Sagan one I have and probably buying the new Sagan.

You also seem to have forotten that this is the Hot or NOT thread.
If you want the "my bike is hot and I dont want to discuss it" thread, this is not it.

uhh, "function" maybe not so. Adjusting the saddle may be a bit difficult unless you remove your junction box?
