Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The poignant irony of that name was made clear to me when a Dura Ace chain they had installed came apart 8 miles into the first ride. Needless to say I get my bike repairs done elsewhere. Now you know why my 'local' bike shop is Piermont Bicycle Connection, 40 miles from here.
Is that in Chester, or is it closer to Campbell Hall? I stood at a friend's house there, and I think I went to their shop. Pretty awesome!

The guy dropped a $25 pair of glasses and wasn't pissed? I got mad when my $10 Stihl chainsaw safety glasses flew off into the bushes during a clumsy manouver.

Speaking of Oakleys: Was anyone watching the Olympic men's volleyball on Sat. with two USAians up against a pair of Latvians? The tall US guy (can't recall his name) had a pair of hideous Oakleys that lost their lenses partway through the match. Oddly enough, he left the frames on - even the commentator had to make a remark. Must be a sponsorship thing - but I think Oakley would not want to be known as 'the brand of glasses that loses its lenses in the heat of competition'.

if a little sweat on you lens or brow bothers you you need to HTFU. keep the glasses on and you wont drop them. later.

I wish I could wear cheap sunglasses, but if I don't wear my expensive prescription ones, I crash into stuff even more than usual.

How about not dropping your shades? I've worn Oakleys for years. I haven't lost a single pair.

Due to the humidity in Beijing, the lenses fog up. They took the lenses off, but left the frame on. Stupid Oakley sponsorships.

I have the same Tifosi. I did my research after having my Spy's fog up during rides. They work great!

This dude Dario says 'Nah, that's why I buy cheap glasses, those cost me $25'.

We shared a fist bump @ 25mph. It was EXCELLENT.

I have a few pair of the Tifosi Slip. They ROCK.

I had a pair of those. Lens cracked inside of a month. And I had never swapped the lenses nor dropped them, etc.

No Tifosi for me, thanks.

I wear Performance Quattro's which are almost always on sale for $30. They come with both gray and amber lenses, do NOT have metal screws, and work just fine despite my extraordinary ability to sweat like a hog.

I have a pair of Coyote Coopers from Nashbar, they were like @25 with a case a 3 sets of lenses. If they were run over on a group ride it wouldn't be that much of a loss. I think I'll get a pair or two of PBK glasses.

Bikes: Diamondback centurion. Home built tandem

if you can justify two $50 tires (disposeable items) than you can justify expensive eyewear.

Oakley half jackets - $105 They dont wear out, and unless you do something stupid, they dont break

Set of nice tires - $100 ---- last about 1500 miles or 2-3 months for a more serious rider

It was also raining, so I would imagine that played a part in them taking out the lenses... I was watching today and both the US men had taken the lenses out of the frames.

I can't see as well as I want to in the drops with framed lenses so I use the Ryder frameless. About $40. and decent lenses.

(Does anyone else find it annoying to be cranking your head up to see over the frames when you're in the drops? Bugs the heck out of me and, might start checking out the Home Depot goggles. )

But I always do something stupid. And if you spend $105 for Oakleys you have that covered right up front.

Fatal, don't take this the wrong way, but quite frankly, you might have to upgrade to Cat 6.

We have to ride Fatal. We can do that Hudson River cinder bike track, and if you really want a little Self-Loathing you can try to hang on my wheel up that little cruncher hill that goes to Rockland Lake.

i walked that last time ha. i like to think it was because it was 10 at night and i couldnt see anything and i was on the tail end of a 40 miler, but its really just my cat 6-iness. also for some reason the forge product planners, in their infinite wisdom, that 21 tooth granny gear would be perfect for a bike aimed at freds, noobs and cheapskates. my crummy job means i ride almost exclusively after 6pm. i was sitting outside starbucks and one of the dudes from toga was there with some people. he saw my bike when i rolled up, and came over to me. i thought he was going to talk to me, then i think he saw what bike it was and walked away. i thought it was funny.

A co-worker, a motorcyclist, saw me ride into work one day wearing glasses. The next day he brought me a sack of glasses suited for motorcyclists in all colors -- mirrored, dark, amber, clear, etc. probably about 15 pair. They wrap around the face perfectly with no sight lines -- they absolutely rock. I'll never need another pair.
