Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Its Raining.

So what do you guys where while riding in the rain? Im in Portland and the drops started falling this morning and will for about a week now, and I have no rain gear.

Im going to go get some fenders after work today. Also thinking about going to the Coloumbia store for some rain gear but any other good suggestions would be nice.

p.s. im a newb that doesnt wear proper bike gear so keep that in mind. usually jeans/shorts or whatever im wearing to work that day.

I'd suggest wearing lycra because the times I've worn cotton clothing underneath rain shells I got so sweaty I might as well have just gotten wet from the rain. If you're commuting to work you can take your clothes in a backpack and change there.

Does columbia make padded bicycle jeans? Preferably one that is faded and torn in parts to be stylish and practical.

I just wear my normal cycling clothes. You will not find an ounce of cotton on me while I am riding my bike. Cotton is bad. BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD!! Synthetics or wool is your friend.

GET SOME PROPER BIKE GEAR!!! Don't worry about looking like an idiot. You already do because you are on a bike, so go to your Local Bike Shop (LBS) and get some proper clothing.

There are rain jackets/ponchos/suits available, but as long as it's warm (60+), I just get wet and then towel off.

Welcome to my nightmare, in the Northeast it's rained every day since June.
Or so it seems.
Might want to search out a couple of Patentcad's post on riding in the rain and other nasty weather. The "Abominal Snowman" post stands out as one of his better post if you're looking to HTFU(c)

I do not care about "lables" or "brands" if thats what you mean, Columbia just makes good **** that keeps you dry.......

If you plan to ride here in fall/Winter you're going to get plenty wet, the advantage of bike gear is it doesn't matter if it gets wet, it doesn't retain moisture like cotton/denim etc.

Those fenders should fit your bike fine and are better/longer than clip on ones.
