Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You need to find a better place to ride if yours is full of gang bangers

Umm, ride away at 30mph?

You're on a bike, can go faster than someone on foot, and can go places someone in a car can't.

Use your guads!

If I ever got to the point where I needed to carry a weapon, I'd take up another hobby.

Those who go to the trouble to carry legally (obtaining permits) know when they may, and may not, legally employ lethal force.

Why not use bear-grade pepper spray mounted to one of your bottle holders? That ought to be enough to fend yourself from just about anything.

Common sense has no place in this argument.

I don't understand the idea of carrying a weapon on a bike. If you are on a training ride I suggest you don't travel through dangerous neighborhoods. If you're so paranoid that you need to carry a weapon get professional help.

The only possible reason to carry a weapon is if you have to commute on a bike and the route is dangerous.

Thanks, Mike.

Dismissing the jokes, I will never carry a weapon. If it gets to the point that I NEED to, as the other poster said, I will find another hobby. But I will say that I do carry a little can of pepper spray. It's mostly for dogs and such, but there are psychos out there and it's a great non-lethal compromise. Batons, stun guns, guns, etc. are a bit of an over-kill.

If you live in Arizona and have a Machine Gun tax stamp, you can own one of these for a mere $50,000. It's a Dillon Aero M134.
