It's like a political or religious debate.
No one will "win" and we are all losers for having participated in the discussion.
...you old grey bearded recumbulators.

I like bikes. All kind of bikes, including 'bents. I've even test-ridden them at a really nice shop that specializes in them. So I've seen 'bent forums and while the bikes are really interesting, their advocates are their own worst enemy. The smug sense of superiority that would make a Mac user blush, the insecure need for validation so similar to the most irritating PC users, and the grand sense of conspiracy against a marginalized technology that sounds like Amiga and BeOS fans all make for a collection of neuroses that nobody wants to associate with.

Hour record, speed record, distance record.. all these records mean little to me; if my ass hurts I get off the bike and stop riding.. if my neck hurts, I get off the bike and stop riding, if my wrists hurt, I get off the bike and stop riding... interesting thing is, I've never gotten off my recumbent bike and stopped riding because of pain on my body.
Those eye level SUV exhaust pipes only fuel your passion.
Arse jabbing road debri prod you on even faster.
You are the "ULTRA RECUMBULATOR"!

It's OK to not know the definition...in fact it helps point to the fact that there is a distinctly "fishy" smell around here...what with all those grey beards hanging in the road forum. Bunch of fish out of water.

Incorrect. The interesting thing is that I've never had to get off my normal (yeah I said it) bike because of pain on my body.
More interesting is your inability to find someone who can appropriately fit you to a normal bike. My only guess is that might be due to some sort of particular physical limitation in your case. Seems to be normal with that bent riders have physical limitations......

Generalizing that recumbent riders have physical limitations is not only unfair, but also shows how little experience you have in cycling knowledge... people generally fear the unknown.. just as the title of this thread.

Seems to me that you havn't ridden you bike long enough.. appropriate fit has little to do with comfort of the seating area after 8 hours of riding, sit on your butt long enough, it is going to hurt.. simple as that.

After 20 years around the sport I throw generalizations around because...they are humorous....and usually correct.

what bent forum would that be. I read several bent forums and most seem to be indifferent. I ride 2 DFs and one bent (not at the same time...) and like them all but it did take severl hundred miles to become comfortable on the bent. As for the smug sense of superiorty...most of the replies to my many questions (newbie that I was) were very friendly and when I mentioned my slightly slower hill climbing ability most agreed. Even those who did not were not smug.

Happily, the neuroses of upright riders are also prominently on display so no one has to go anywhere to get the full effect. It's the BF equivalent of a staycation.

Incorrect on all counts. Proper fit with the right saddle and everything below you disappears...you obviously gave up on the quest or still haven't found what it takes. Simple as that.

What's your qualification for being 20 years around the sport?
Seems to me that you just like to think that you are correct and refuse to try things that you fear to determine a just opinion.
If you put as many miles on an "appropriately fitted" recumbent, maybe you would be qualified to generalize your opinions about recumbents.
Your generalization are not humorous, not correct, nor are they factual.. they just make you seems like an ignorant person, simple as that.. maybe that's humorous to you.

When your beard grows to reach the ground at your feet, it will be time for this thread to leave.
