Yeah
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...just-fine.html
The guy who i replied this to has, as i thought, admitted he was joking, but yeah it's true.
Strange when it's a cyclist that's to blame for the death of someone else.
Think everyone's got to be extremely viligant, aware and 'forgiving' on roads and paths

IMO, the road is much safer than a MUP regardless of whether you can hear or not. MUPs are for toodling and playing dodge the other users, who are usually much less predictable than motor vehicles.

I read it...so what if you are deaf. I am hearing impaired AND ride with music...through busy downtown streets at rush hour, suburban arterials and country roads. Your lack of hearing is only as much of a handicap as you make it.
IMO, the road is much safer than a MUP if you can't hear.

How do you figure the road is safer than a MUP? On a MUP bikes are pretty much the fastest things on them... so it is YOU who are aware of others (not the other way around).

I'm on a MUP so I don't get my ass run over on the streets. Just in case you didnt know I'm deaf... so a MUP is much safer for me to ride on because here in OC people have trouble controlling their behemouth SUV's with their kids screaming in the backseat.
I don't mind the REAL joggers who are trying to get exercise while pushing thier children along... what I DO mind are the blonde bimbo's who have their ipod on blasting full volume and their kids screaming and flailing about in the stroller. If I don't have enough room to squeeze through I usually slow down and announce my presence in hopes they'll scootch over just a tiny bit enough I can pass by safely. I am not asking very much, just a bit of situational awareness and everyone can get along nicely.

My little brother is deaf and manages to ride his bike just fine in Riverside which is far more ghetto than OC. In my opinion, a rear view mirror is safer than a sense of hearing. I can understand your reluctance to ride on the road though. Lots of people are scared to ride on the road. It's safe enough if you choose your routes wisely, dress appropriately and ride predictably.

He sounded like a bit of an ass to just keep going at her when she didn't move. Not just her safety though. Pales in comparison to her death obviously but, he might off fallen off, hurt himself and written off his £4500 (that's like $8000) bike.
Pedestrians look at bikes, like we look at cars!

why do cyclist hate runners?
why does eveyone hate blonde bimbos jogging with double wide baby strollers?
why does chipcom hate deaf people?
will we ever know?
later.

saturday- left the house at 5:00 for a 5 hr endurance ride. needless to say it was dark out.
was going north, in the bike lane with a HP light out front and a red blinker on the rear. was on a section of raod with no street lights, looked down for a split second to look at my watch, looked up and *holycrap!* -there's a woman jogger, dressed in black (fashion with no regard for safety) with no reflectors or lights.
given my cat-like reflexes (actually a good dose of luck) i cut it to so close we brushed shoulders.
the thing that kills me is-- there was a perfectly good sidewalk not 10 feet to her left!
what the H3LL was she doing in the BIKE LANE?!?!?

Yeah, there are frequently joggers/walkers/other obstacles walking the wrong way in the bike lane I use.
I'm usually polite and just get over with traffic (it's a one way route).
If they're totally Captain Oblivious and running/walking with their head down I usually will say "heads up" when I go by them. That usually wakes them up.
Not a huge deal though. Sometimes they're even nice enough to get out of my way if I'm on a climb. I must look like I'm have a terrible time!
Share the road.

Making a kilometer blurry
Come out to Orange County and try to ride on these streets (any time of day), people do things that will make you **** your bibs.

We don't have too much of a problem of this in UK (Cornwall anyway) because there aren't many MUP. Any there are, are used by pedestrians, dog walkers, joggers and family cyclists. You don't get 'proper' cyclist speeding down these paths. I stick to the road myself

California law states that pedestrians always have the right of way. And others have stated the safety reasoning behind jogging against traffic. When I'm jogging I'll move away from A-hole drivers because a car will kill me. A bike is going to pretty hazardous to the rider also, what will it take? A kick to the fork, a palm to the handlebars, or just a yank on your arm.
Or you exercise the quality that you want from drivers and learn to share the road.

I don't even want to count all the little whoopsies on MUPs from dodging pets, peds, kids etc.
