Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah, I was --><-- close to ordering a Xenith Team then realized 99% of my races are crits and went the cheap CAAD9 route instead. Maybe next year I'll pick one up as a second bike.

Does anyone else find it funny that the bike pictured would cost 2x more than a Cervelo P2C with 808s, and probably cost you 30s over a 40km TT?

Because those wheels, and how that fork is designed, are both truly miserable in the aerodynamics department.

And yet, people still eat this ***** up.

He could quite possibly mean 1500km on that specific bike in a year. What if he has 20 other bikes he put 1500km on as well... that would put him at 30,000km.

WW bikes aren't made to go fast, they are made to go up.

You guys should ride more and fixate on weight weenie idiot expensive gear that nobody in the real world actually rides or races on less.

The WW'd XL EV4 is one of four bikes I own.

It costs the most money, but it gets the least mileage during the year.

Oh.

I'll take my 15lb bike on Aeolus 5.0 or 6.5 tubulars, then.

You don't have carbon chainrings, do you?

Nothing wrong with weight weenie-ishness. I thought that bike was drool-worthy. Id never race it in a crit. But I'd love to try it out on all the hills/mountains I do out here every ride. At 178 lbs though I'm guessing I weigh too much to even be allowed to buy one.

On the XL EV4, I do.

Money says I would destroy something on that bike in two weeks of normal riding.

The fork looks kinda wide to hide the brake caliper.
Is that so?
Seems like that would negate any aero effect.

If you are the same weight as the owner, you probably won't since he is said to ride more miles per month than most BF'er do in a year...

No need to hate on those that have afford such things; if you don't like it just move on.

That is exactly the type of continued aero improvement I was hoping for on the new Cervelo S3. Maybe it's not worth it for the aero gain, but I think it would be.

You think that mileage and weight are the only things that will affect how a part holds up?

That's awesomely ignorant of you.

Instead of insulting the guy, how about enlightening him (with whatever other factors affect part breakage).

Ok.

Let's say you have a triathlete and a ProTour level racer of the same weight. Let's say it's some dude who wins Ironman races, and Alejandro Valverde. Valverde's been sick, so his training load is down a bit to maybe 20hrs a week. He's getting ready for the hilly Classics, and Ironman dude is getting ready for Kona (I have no clue when that race is, just an example).

Who do you think puts more torque into the pedals?

Who do you think would be more likely to destroy an aluminum freehub body?

Who do you think would be more likely to destroy a heavily machined aluminum freehub body?

A friend of mine almost crashed (got a foot down) when he tore right through a PowerTap SL aluminum freehub body. A unit that is beefier by design, and was not modified in any way.

the article says he rides up to 1000km a week. Bull ****. 620 miles and of course, not even a water bottle holder.
