I grew up in Houston - love it there. It can be a fun place but you have to look a bit harder. People are very friendly and there are some amazing women there. People will kill you on the road though - car or bike. They drive like complete aggressive insane maniacs. Out of the car though people will bend over backwards to give you the shirt off of their back if you need it.

So true
Yes & no. They'll see someone on a bike and that'll automatic trigger their own personal memory of riding a bike (and most of these people haven't rode a bike since they were kids). So to them, they automatically categorize all bikes as toys (not only BMXs).
I forgot another "new" category. In the past few years, with the "green" movement in full swing, I think more & more people are beginning to realize that cycling is not only a form of sport, but also a part of commuting & helping the environment. Once more people become aware of this, we (as a group) will get more respect. With the higher price of gas, I'm beginning to see much much much more cyclists on the road.

That being said, the downtown area was ugly, but the NW area where I spent most of my time wasn't too bad if you don't mind shopping malls and miles upon miles of strip malls and chain restaurants along FM1960.
But Papadeaux's is still one of my all time favorite restaurants..... even if it is a chain.
OK, back to our regularly scheduled program.

Im suprised at all the whiners here complaining about lance not wearing a helmet. If you were walking down the street and lance was like hey man come rip down the street with me and my pals real quick...it will be fun...youd honestly go "oh na man I left my helmet at home..by the way you guys should really be riding without a helmet like this in the street."? Miserable ****! Its nice to see lance has a personality, unlike you.
When you become a professional I dont think you sign a contract to uphold the moral standards of fat forum going whiners and complainers. I mean really...wear your helmet all the time if you wish (as I do as well)...and enjoy the videos.

You will prolly not find this funny if you have no exposure to the "fixie" culture

Tour das Hugel is coming up 11/15... Tour de Gruene 11/2...
When you coming?

EDIT: regarding Lance and his helmet, it's no secret that he never trains with a helmet, unless he's training to get used to it again. The only times I've seen him wear one locally is at the Tuesday Nighter, and that's a nutty enough race that I think just about anyone would wear one. Whenever I've come across Lance when he's solo, he is sans helmet.

I like how casual they are about it...right outta the airport they're throwing bikes together, greasing headsets and everything. I'd have to drop mine off at the shop and ask if I could have it by Thursday. small apt, few tools....well, some say I'm just a tool but c'est la vie.

Spinning, but in a low gear. Wouldn't that be both?
