Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I went with my friend because he invited me and he is a distance junkie. 200, 300, 400 and 600K rider. He set at PR for that route so I guess we had a pretty good ride.

Nothing better to do blotto?
It would be one thing to criticize if my distance was UNDER 200K.
let me spoon feed it to you: i don't give a ****, wither way.

A permanent is basically a short brevet.

What is a Permanent?
A Permanent is like a brevet but you can ride it any time, not just on one specific date. Like brevets, routes can start and finish in the same location, but they can also run point-to-point, and can be any distance of 200km+ (100-199km for a Permanent Populaire).

Here's the BC Randonneur's definition and explanation:
https://www.randonneurs.bc.ca/newslet...cy-barill.html

Most of these clubs will run permanents, usually before or after the brevet and randonnee season:

For example ... here's the list for the BC Randonneur permanents:

Some permanents may be listed on this site as well, along with lots of advice on riding long distances:

Yeah, Merlin, what's up with the charity rides? When are you going to man up and do a double metric?
