Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Free Weight Calculator

A day or so ago someone posted asking for a spreadsheet to calculate the weight of their bike. Though some criticized the OP for being too lazy to setup their own spreadsheet, the fact is that in my experience most people HATE working with Excel.

For those people I created a simple bike weight calculator. Check it out at https://hh4s.com/Bike.zip and let me know what you think.

It is a Flash based application, so no installation is required. You can even save and print your results.

Mitchell

nice job: The only thing I would add would be a "computer" listing, and "other" for frame pump etc.

If you edit it, please PM me.

You should go over to the weight weenie forum and post it there.... I'm sure they would like it, or have another version where you could get ideas from.

OK, I added two fields, one for "Computer" and another for "Other". I also added a field to enter the bike's description.

That list looks very close (exactly) to the list I suggested to the OP in the original thread

I'm not sure I get this. I have a $15 electronic fish scale that I can hoist the bike onto. Takes about 2 seconds. What's the advantage of this system?

You can weigh a bike that does not exist. That said, unless the weights were actually measured and not claimed, the weight will be a fantasy anyway.

So is this basically the same as me punching stuff into a calculator and hitting "ENTER"?

Er, well, except that you can do what if scenarios and save them. Not for everyone, but surely there are those that will find it useful.

Yeah, it was your list that made the whole thing doable without having to spend a bunch of time listing a bike's components. Thanks.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to be a jerk, but was just wondering if that's what it is actually for.
