Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No, I'm not even thinking about Spring. I have events to train for by then and I'm not in much shape to do well in them yet!

Endurance miles will set you free. I'm told...

Bikes: Lots

I'm working on all Machak's rust spots now so that when I ride him through winter they won't get any worse.

I have six bikes...some nice and some beaters. I ride them all year round. The idea of "retiring" a bike for the winter is completely alien to me. I don't understand why you would do that.

To save components from salt, to ride something with slightly wider tyres, to make sure you don't have an "excuse" not to ride, etc.

I just converted from Summer to Winter mode a couple weeks back. Wider tires, heavier wheels, attach various lights, swap the road pedals for mtb pedals and mtb shoes (warmer, plus I do cx).

I'm still riding. It doesn't snow here.

Bikes: Trek Madone 3.1

nope. I have 3 bikes, but only one I ride with any regularity. I just put it on the trainer for the first time today. Was on it for 1.5 hours while watching Chelsea/W. Brom. Albion and some of the UNC-Asheville/Liberty game. Late fall/winter/early spring is depressing time period in regards to cycling in the upper midwest.

I'm contemplating giving my ride a new paint job, I can handle the cold, and I can handle the rain. I choose not to handle cold rain.

I wait until after Winter to tune the bike up. The last time I did it before the end of Winter, the brand new cables were corroded and the bar tape looked like crap in just a month!

Bring the bike inside.

I read somewhere that helps.

eh. Roads generally are not salt-covered all winter long, at least not here. I still end up riding my nicest bike for a lot of the winter. There's never an excuse not to ride.
