Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In general I tend to welcome everyone on two wheels. Check the regional forum and the number of rides I've put on as proof.

....I still bust balls though. I just do it with a wink.
I always add the wink or the face sticking out its tongue to compensate for the lack of expressions on e experiences while communicating through a forum. In some cases you get the crowd mentality going and just because one person wasn't that pleasant to the newbie others follow suit.

Empathy for what?

I have empathy for Tsunami victims and guys who just lost their jobs. I have a harder time empathizing with bike idiots. Primarily because I am one.

I find it rather amusing that anybody thinks the path to becoming a real man runs through a place like BF. What's up with that?

Sure, then we can go to the libraries and remove all the books - and burn them.

The language out on the road with one group is going to be different than the other. And there are plenty of shades between the two. But at the end of the rides, when we all get done and chat and have lunch afterwards, there isn't a Cat 2 telling the guy who just did 25mi and is ready to collapse that they need to HTFU or leave.

And personally I don't care if you think that a discouraging work from someone isn't going to make or break them as a future cyclist. Why do you feel compelled to say those discouraging words to someone you've never interacted with before in your life? Seriously, why?
I agree, the Cat2 would not tell the guy to HTFU or leave. But, if the other guy asked the Cat 2, "Will you please judge my bike?", I do think the Cat 2 would laugh and tell him his bars were setup wrong. Don't you?

If you've never met someone in person before and look them in the face and tell them that they are stupid (or doing stupid things) then yeah... be prepared for a negative reaction.

I would think this a rather basic thing.

You also seem to think you can increase VO2 Max via Yoga.

And maybe you can. I'll never know. I can't even touch my friggin toes. I can't even origami my right leg enough to ride a sport bike. Hey Andrew, let's do that Catskills m/c ride in the Spring. That really does sound cool.
