Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've done that, except I broke the pin... Mine was part of a multi-tool too.

If it'd been made of CF it would have exploded too. Count yourself lucky.

I broke my 25 year old chain tool a couple of months ago so I bought a new one. Somehow I didn't feel the need to start a thread about it.

sent the seller a messege today, no reply yet. it would be nice if s/he replaced it free of charge. maybe i should bought the pbk multi tool, but i wanted the knife.

any ideas on how to remove my chain and put on the new one? i really don't wan to shell out another 15bucks. was thinking of putting the chain in the tool, clamping it down. then taking the pin head and a hammer and shortta hammer the pin out...i rather not ruin the new chain.

In all fairness it was a cheap tool. Were you using it as your main chain tool or only for roadside emergencies?

cheap guy, eh? you should definitely rig up something with a hammer. Surely couldn't cost you more in the long run.

The irony is, only a few bucks more would have purchased a quality tool from Park or CB.

Guess you got what you paid for!

This dinky multi-tool chain tools suck. They're hard to use and are easily broken.

I used to carry this one, the Park CT-6 folding tool (but I lost it):

It's small and sleek, and it doesn't have any pointy bits to poke holes in your spare tube. So sleek that it's easy to lose.

I broke the dedicated chain breaker that came with my tool kit. It was a cheap nashbar one.

The one that came on my topeak multi tool was better. I'm using that for now till I buy a new one.

You need a nice one to keep at home, and only use the multitool version if you break a chain on the road somewhere. (Which is unlikely if you replace the chain when they wear) Park's website has detailed instructions on how to replace the chain.

If you do a search for "cheap tools" you will find about 10,000 posts from me saying not to buy them.

Consider this 10,001.
