Isaac Impulse arrived

and I must say it is a really nice frame. The BB, downtube, headtube and chainstays are MASSIVE. I was hoping to pick up a Parlee but other priorities called and I went with my other top choice, Isaac. I hope to build this up for about the price of the Parlee frame alone with spare parts and some new stuff I will pick up at the LBS.

The LBS that I like near me carries Parlee but I couldn't find not ONE Isaac dealer in my state so I went to the internet and snagged this at 30% off. I will order some needed parts from the LBS and have them build this up for me in a few weeks.

I have to say though, my Mongoose Bosberg is more nicely finished than this Isaac which retail cost for frame alone was more than the MSRP of the Mongoose complete bike. This has nothing to do with the ride quality, but as far as the fit and finish, my Mongoose and my friend's Pedal Force are equally as nice in that regard.

At the price I got this Isaac, I am able to accept spending the extra money for the name, but some detail near the dropouts and the decals are nothing show stopping.

You never answered my questions about the Issac in the last thread. You're dead to me now.

Bikelyst 12-18-08 06:30 PM

ideas on group?

Was it an impulse buy?

make that an impulse bargain :)

some "impulse" must have been involved otherwise we would look at the picture of a sump pump or a scanned treasury note.

congrats!

kudude 12-18-08 06:55 PM

you are already sounding like you're regretting spending the money on it. Now you're going to PAY someone else to build it?

It's just a matter of time until you try to sell it used for less than it's going to cost you.

I'm sorry for your loss

smart of you to start early on the bidding :). let him put 30.000miles on that baby before he trades it in for your huffy.

I do find the brand name 'Issac' disturbingly biblical.

DScott 12-18-08 07:01 PM

Who makes those frames?

sorry if i got you wrong. you sounded a bit negative for a thread that celebrates the acquisition of an only mildly overpriced frameset in which case i apologize.

triplebutted 12-18-08 07:11 PM

I'm getting me one of these. Looks like all the other carbons out there without the Nascar'esk stickers on it.

yes but no but yes but no...

compare the frames detail by detail and see if you find the difference. i'm talking about the two frames shown. it's night and day. one more reason to go with the isaac. if you don't figure the difference then the frame you posted is the right one for you anyway. win win situation.

I'm talkin' 'bout Shaft.

Lazyrider 12-18-08 07:22 PM

No,
I don't regret spending $ on this frame because I got a relatively good deal on it. But sometimes I question the retail cost of some of these "higher end" frames. It will all be about the ride once I get it on the road. Aesthetically though, I love its simplicity. This Isaac is the carbon equivalent to my Litespeed brushed ti as far as its basic look. But that is appealing to me.

You mean besides the fact they're completely different frames and have different geometry? One of them has bottle cages and the other doesn't. One has a carbon fiber steerer. One has some words on it.

What's your point?

Lazyrider 12-18-08 07:28 PM

I kinda agree with you about some of the generic frames as they can be as good of a bike. The one you posted is ok, I hate that carbon weave though. As far as the Isaac decals, they are one of the main reasons for why I like the look of the bike. Simple and understated.
The tubes on the Isaac are MASSIVE though and this frame is raced by professional teams which at least shows it is up to the challenge of racing. I am sure an generic company can make a frame that looks similar, but will likely weigh a significant amount more. I am impressed with Pedal Force's RS2 that a friend has because the weight is low.

thank you for repeating my question. nice to have an echo :-)

Lazyrider 12-18-08 07:39 PM

Cuz I am not a Lemming. Nice bikes but I hate the way they look. The Olympic paint is the only one I like and I wouldn't drop that kind of $ on a frame anymore.
