Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'll drink to this thread. It would be easier for me to list the things I DON'T intend to buy this year. To protest this 'save every penny cuz you're about to lose it all' mentality, I opened a charge-account (see high interest credit card) with my LBS.

Already did my taxes so I can get that money back out into the economy and fight the Great Recession.

1-Buying my first Post-Regan-Era road bike. And my first new bike since I was 10.
2-Buying my g/f a new SS/FG.
3-Buying my 1 year old daughter a no pedals scoot bike for when she does start walking (gotta start em early--i'm going to be the Earl Woods to her Tiger).
4-Buying parts to build up an older frame.
5-Equip my fixed gear with a porteur rack.
6-Get some nicer tools.

Bikes: LOOK 595 Ultra/Campy Record 10Sp, restored Guerciotti/Campy C-Record 6 Sp, TIME RXR/Campy SR 11Sp, and Colnago C-60 with Campagnolo SR 11sp.

Given that I already got everything for a new bike, all I am needing to get now is some energy to get off my arsz and pick a frame set. The current candidates are:

Parlee Z4
Time RXR red
Time RXR in white

Raleigh Super Course and Torelli Express frames bought cheap on eBay. Build 'em up with combination of parts lying around, used stuff on eBay/Craig's List and new from Chain Reaction. I need another bike like I need another dog. Already have 7 of both. I'll spin to the poor house with a big smile on my mug.

ggg300,

What the heck is that prancing red human/bird/shaman thing moving through the frames on your posts? I find it erotic, hypnotizing, disturbing and eerie all at the same time. Great googley moogley, it's strange.

Saving money isn't gonna do anyone any good when the deflation turns into hyperinflation. Instead of putting all my spare money in savings where I can watch it become worthless, or gold, I'm spending it on the only thing that will always have value...stuff. No new bikes at the moment (hell we got like 13 already), but I been spending on tools, parts, accessories, and expanding my workshop out in the barn This weekend it was a truing stand, parts washer, another work bench and a grinder.

Besides, he who dies with the most toys, wins.

Bikes: 2009 Spooky (cracked frame), 2006 Curtlo, 2002 Lemond (current race bike) Zurich, 1987 Serotta Colorado, 1986 Cannondale for commuting, a 1984 Cannondale on loan to my son

I bought a racing license today. And I'm too old for bike racing. And too fat even though I have dropped about 20 pounds in the last couple of months. The damn thing says that I am 55 and I won't be that until mid-to-late May.

On the bright side a lot of the 55+ races around here are grouped with the womens' races. On second thought maybe this isn't so good. I remember local rides with Jeanne Golay in the 1980's and she was kicking everyone's butt in a most unmerciful way and I'm a lot older now.

I will be attending the North American handmade Bicycle show in Indy later this month and placing an order for either a new custom DeSalvo or Serotta Ti frame set. I've been a good boy and I think I deserve it. More than likely I'm going with the DeSalvo.

If I find a smoking deal later in the year I'll buy a set of aero wheels. Those Williams 38 clinchers look very tempting...very tempting I'll tell ya.

Other than that I just want to go surfin' with the alien.
