Well, I just ordered a frame today, so combined with rollers, new cranks, a new saddle, and probably a new pair or two of bibs, I'm doing my part.
I'm also selling 3 complete bikes and 2 frames to help fund these purchases. |

You may have a point. We should just start calling it the Depression it seems to be.
I would've thought the King of Hype to be immune to it. Have we really had 6 straight months of declining gdp? At any rate, cycling knows nothing of economic cycles. Buy what you want, when you want it. Or, if you have a SO to persuade; buy what you need, and of course you need it right away. |
I feel that buying bike stuff is a pretty wise move considering my dollars aren't going to be worth much when the world banking system collapses :) Anything with a Campagnolo logo, on the other hand, seems to never lose value!
At least my money isn't in pounds... sorry, Brits. |
I just bought a new floor pump!

Just ordered two pairs of Assos bibs from wiggle and am buying some new Williams System 19 climbing wheels, but really keeping things modest. Last year I spent about $10k on bikes and equipment, but my wife is out of work now, and that cuts back on some of our play money. Travel comes first and then bikes and photography when it comes to disposable income. Bikes are much cheaper than photography though so it is good to have something for perspective.
Sadly, I also bought too many toys last year... :innocent: |
So far this year:
Assos Uno Jersey Look Keo Carbon Pedals And most importantly a new DA chain and a new CO2 pump! |
new "top of the range" farme and fork coming today
new training wheels, not sure yet what to get bars and stem also new frame needs new front mech and bb. it's only the start. I'm in retail, over 12 years now, same store, same location and last X-mas and holiday period was one of the best we have ever had. |

ggg300,
What the heck is that prancing red human/bird/shaman thing moving through the frames on your posts? I find it erotic, hypnotizing, disturbing and eerie all at the same time. Great googley moogley, it's strange. |
Just built up an 09 Tarmac Pro SL frame to replace my 07 Tarmac Pro and Fizik Antares saddle.
Next on the list are a new set of wheels and pedals. Yes, that is a Campy crank mixed in with Shimano. What can I say, i can't stand the campy shifters but they sure do have a clever way of joining a crank set. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...f/DSC00012.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...f/DSC00014.jpg |
What do you think of that Antares saddle? What were you riding before?
|
Refreshing to see Pcad is taking my general advise:
F the recession, buy some new bling for spring before the recession ends. Speaking of F,where the F is the ride report on that $5000 lump of Chinese plastic? All we have received so far is whining about the frame popping, squeaking and farting. |
Santini t-gel bibs x2
Santini legwarmers Santini armwarmers Santini kneewarmers Santini t-gel summer gloves Thomson elite seatpost I'm in my Italian period... |
Assos F.I. Mille S5 Bib Shorts

I had an Alias that I absolutely love but I am trying to get rid of some of the Specialized crap on my bike. I tried an Arione but got rid of it after about 150miles because it was not flat enough in the back to support my wideness. :( The Antares is relatively flat front to back and almost completely flat side to side. Although it looks really thin its got a ton of padding. It looks like Fizik pulled this off by keeing the plastic shell on the bottom flat instead of curving with the shape of the saddle. As they say, it is a fit between the Arione and Aliante but much more toward a Arione. It only has a small rise in the back to push against but I was hoping it would be a bit more. I think of it as an Arione with a big flat rear end. |
ingleside I too just got an Antares, our bikes are quite similar in componentry...cool stuff
I am 50/50 on the Antares at the moment, I love the wider platform but it feels much stiffer than the Arione did. Taking a while to get used to, but the Antares supports my sit bones much better than the Arione. We'll call it a keeper. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3411/...308a9bbae1.jpg |
I purchased my Canyon CF Pro w/ Chorus last September for this season. Not necessarily an '09 purchase per se, but I'm still licking my financial wounds from that one.
This year, I'm planning on buying new bibs and Keos, as I'm sick of my finicky Speedplay cleats. Not sure if I'll be purchasing anything else other than the occasional tube/tire/etc. |
in order of importance for 2009:
Coaching SRM 60mm race tubulars Dura Ace 7900 (sans calipers and crank) and other componentry reducing my 60cm 5.2 Madone from 17.5 to reasonable 15.6 lbs. |
