Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

ENVE 65 tubulars w/ DT Swiss 240s / Sapim cx-rays

I just couldn't pass up a great deal, and got them for the Caad10 but may be going on another build if I decide to sell the Caad10 frameset.

So, said kit arrived yesterday and pretty much looks exactly as expected. The Coolmax Chamois is definitely nice and the sizing is better than I thought it would be. Sorry for the terrible cell phone pic, but here is what they look like for real. Well sort of. (Bad lighting and worse photographer)

New wheels. The front is a factory 303, the rear is a wheelbuilder 404 with a powertap G3.

Very f'n nice valygrl. I know you are a bit away from the fires, but some beautiful riding is getting burned up out there.

I only stripped it, and cleared the old one to get rid of the logo. Since this one will come w/o a logo I won't have to do that. As for what failed, well a picture is worth a thousand words.....

Damn breh, you must have some serious legs. Just ripped the pedal right off of there. Was it on the up stroke or the down? Or dod it clip something like a rock?

Is that a hole in the frame showing top left from the crank?

Thanks. Yes its a terrible shame for the cyclists and of course a tragedy for the residents and the forest. Hoping like crazy that every single person takes the fire ban seriously for 7/4.

No frame is fine. Not sure what that was.

I'd like to think it was a result of my serious legs, but I think the glue holding the insert in just let loose for some reason. It was on the down stroke at the base of a climb. Luckily it was at the base. Had it happened at the 26% part a couple hundred meters up the road, it could of resulted in bad stuff.

Yea, that is why i was asking. I have seen some people take some very serious spills from similar type of issues or even just having their show rip out of the pedal.

Yikes that looks like it hurt just a little.

What method did you use to remove the logo from the carbon. Did you do the carbolift or razor blade method. I am going to strip the force cranks I bought used and repaint the inside sliver outlining of SRAM in liquigas green.

After my Blackburn AirFix failed me when I had a flat yesterday (with both of my CO2 cartridges... ), I did the walk of shame and brought it back to the Performance store where I bought it. They exchanged it for:

And $4 in cash.

On the cranks I sanded it, but I now prefer the razor method. I did my Trek frameset that way. It is much better than sanding.

The most boring cycling-related purchase ever:
Two Forte Omega carbon cages which are on sale right now, everybody. Try not to get too excited.
One giant box of generic 16 gram threaded CO2 cartridges. Bike shop prices on these guys are insane ($4 per, usually), got them for about a buck each on Amazon.
One Continental Gatorskin 23MM tire to replace the GP4000s I sliced open this weekend resulting in a 7AM Call of Shame. Unboot-able inch long tire slashes=suck. Only about 600 miles on that tire as well and now it's trash. WTF did I hit?

Yay me.
