I actually prefer my SPD's over my SL's, my carbon sole is stiffer on my SPD's than the 1's on my SL's.
& these pedals offer a good platform, no not spots.

I also use those same PD-A530 pedals on my road bike, which is my commuter. But yeah I also only have SPD shoes, don't really care for the non-walkability of road bike shoes.
I love the A530's because I can ride 15 miles to work with bike shoes, then hop on it during lunch break to go down the street or something with my office shoes.

Picked up this 07 trek pilot 2.1 off craigslist a couple days ago for cheap. I'm a mtn biker but thought it would be nice to have a road bike for when I don't feel like or can't hit the trails. It has had some parts swapped out over the years and mostly not for the better but should be fine for me. Pedals will have to go.

True enough. There's a group within an hour of where I live that I'm considering, but fee is roughly $200/mth (includes all power analysis) with a 6 month minimum. Seemed like a lot, mind if I ask is this in the ballpark?

Also picked up a Cyclops Super Magneto training kit (trainer, pad, climbing blocks) at a stellar price. I had thought magnetic trainers were dead but I actually liked it more than the fluid in a side by side test.

Practice on a trainer, or parking lots a few times, & try not to think/over think it.
It come natural, just like taking you foot off a platform pedal.

Seriously the only worry I have is screwing up my knee in a moment of panic...the last thing I need is another knee operation. As a result there will be lots of supported clipping in and out before the local road and a lot more before going where cars roam
