So my buddy is looking into getting a new bike. He is thinking about the Scott CR1 Pro. I haven't heard much about them on here, but from what I gather from other sources is that it is a pretty good frame. Give me your thoughts and what other bikes would be good to have him check out. Thanks.

I just built a up a Scott Speedster S1, which is comparable to the newer s10 frames and I'm extremely happy with it. The CR1 Pro would be a step or two up from my frame even. I'd say read up on reviews and just do your homework. Only thing I hear bad about Scott is that their customer service is bad.. However, recently the man in charge of US customer service has resigned and been replaced. So hopefully those issues are now taken care of.

Only time I have had to contact Scott I emailed them. I got a response back within 24 hours with all the info I requested. Happy with customer service thus far.

I'm very happy with my bike. I tried out a bunch of stuff and the only ones I liked better (look) were out of my price range. Great bike, and much lighter than most other bikes.

I think Scott makes a fantastic bike, no complaints. I just sold a 2008 CR1 because I purchased a bike through a pro deal my team gets. I wish I could have kept both but I needed the money. I did a lot of research and at the CR1 pricepoint there isn't anything better IMO.

Main drawback is the non-replaceable derailleur hanger. That being said CR1's are still a world class bike at a very competitive price. Make sure you always crash on your left side and you will be fine.

It's a great bike, and climbs well from my test ride with it. The only problem I would have with it is the brazed-on rear derailleur, which makes for a very bad situation if it were to ever break or lose position somehow.

That was one of my uncle's first thoughts after he crashed on a <1 month old CR1 he had just had built up. It came out ok, but he had the shop check it to be sure. He seems quite happy with the bike, and had chosen it over some of the pricier frames he was considering, such as Moots and Serotta.

CR1 was the top of the line frame just last year from Scott until the Addict came out. It set the bar for being super light weight and pretty strong. I have been riding one for a while and absolutely love it. A great buy for the money now that it is offered with 105 components. A very upgradeable frame.

Scott can put a new derailleur hanger on if you damage it, and the chances of that are pretty low (only 1 of around a dozen CR1 riders I know have damaged theirs in the last 4 years) - certainly not a deal breaker for me. Still loving my CR1 (2006 SL)!

The CR1 is one of best value out there. Go for it!

great bike.....I love my S10 and when it's time for a new bike....the CR1 will be at the top of my list.

Update: My friend ended up getting a 2007 Scott CR1 SL on closeout for $2700. Full Dura-Ace with Ksyrium wheels. Pretty good deal, IMHO. I will get some picks up of it next week when he picks it up.

Picked up a CR1 Team last year and have put on over 2k. The stock seat needed to be changed out but other wise very happy w/ it.

I've had a CR1 since 2005. I love this bike.

My 2005 was destroyed in a crash (T-Boned by a car...) and it was replaced by a 2007 frame with a crash replacement (Thanks Ski&Bike!).

Frankly, it's such a good bike, that despite all the other "sexier" bikes that have come along since, I can't see myself replacing it anytime soon. Instead I just continue to optimize my set up with lighter and lighter components. (Most of the newer frames are not lighter than the CR1.)

I will say, the one update the bike needs is a replaceable derailleur hanger. Seems like they can shed some weight in the fork (the only porker component on the bike) and still keep the system weight down.

Get a sacrificial derailleur bolt. I love my '06 CR1 SL.

You need to get that monstrosity of a dork disk off there, stat.

It's a light frame but the non replaceable rear d. hanger and reported twitchy handling would make me look elsewhere.

The CR1 demands attention when being ridden, no doubt. I attribute this in part to its stiffness, every movement gets transmitted through the frame an onto the road.

Very true. My teamate picked up a stick or something a few weeks ago, and trashed the frame because of the nonreplaceable hanger. He liked the bike and ended up buying another one because either Scott or our sponsor shop gave him a good deal on it.
