Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

paypal is NOT safe. Do not assume you will be treated by paypal like your credit card company does.

Credit card info theft can be low tech as well. Restaurant employees that run your card through machines can write down your number and sell it to friends.

and Gevalia coffee, too

Strangely i got e-mail notices from the companies telling me about my purchases. Cancelled the card immediately. What a PIA. They entered my real e-mail address and shipped to my billing address which seems odd. Otherwise I wouldn't have known about it for a lot longer.

I have a Visa card that I only use for on line purchases, magazine subscription renewals, etc.

My February Visa bill had some on line gambling charged to it (about $1,000). The location on the statement was given as Coventry, England. I used the card to pay for some PBK purchases in early January.

Coincidence??

Shoot I got the Acai Berry and a magazine subscription charge that posted on Friday. Canceling the card today! This was with my debit card too. I know I shouldn't use it, but I don't want to charge up my CC, cause I might be tempted to just pay the minimum rather than the full balance.

Both vendors are issuing refunds. Try dealing with the vendor first.

Glad I caught it before any big purchases. I am less around $100 for around a week (waiting for the refunds to process). No biggie. I am getting all my money back without major issues.

BUMP

Ordered from PBK in March. Today Chase Visa called me and asked about some charges I didn't make... they never even posted to my on-line account they caught 'em so fast.

Hassle to close the account, but nothing compared to dealing with merchants who think I'm a crook.

I just got word mine was as well. I can't confirm that my PBK purchase was the culprit yet though.

I had the same problems recently with PBK. I had business cards printed up and mailed to me. I told Chase bank and they removed them from my bill and issued me a new card number.

Just went through this with a card I don't use online. My credit union told me it was the Hartfield breech thing and to call the business and ask for my money back. Amazingly, I received a full refund in only a couple of days. My credit union knew my card was compromised and already mailed me the replacement card.
