^ an absurd system where you give someone the free use of your money for a period of time, in exchange for the right to buy an item at the end of the period for a price at which the item would have been availble anyway.

Unless they don't make it anymore and this is the last one in the store, so I'm just securing a bike that could get sold and then I'd be stuck hunting.

people still use lay-away?
last huge purchase i made for myself i just applied for a zero % APR for 60 month credit card and bought it, but then again, i'm an instant gratification *****.
edit: it will probably be more enjoyable riding a bike that is totally yours, good choice.

I just know my luck, if I went in today and put it on my credit card my car's differential would break, my company would cut me or I'd need to get an alien ass slug removed and it wouldn't be covered by my insurance. It's just Murphy's law!

I feel your situation- better safe than sorry.
Lay-away is not a fiscally great system, but in cases like this, i think it makes good sense.

Well there is a condition I didn't like, the $600 I put down is only refundable in store credit, the only reason i went through with it was because I do all my business with this store and they have all the bikes I was looking at. So worst comes to worst yah I can pull out and then I'll have the money to order my other choice, a CAAD 9 frame. I totally agree with you guys about layaway, I've never been a fan and if this was an 09' bike that was still in production I wouldn't have even thought about lay away.
