Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Weekend Rides

Where are you riding this weekend?

Friday: I just got in from a lovely warm 31 km bicycle ride in the country ... the snow is gone, the leaves are coming out again, the sun is shining.

Saturday: I'm still debating ... I'm going to have to check the distance on the route I'm thinking of doing.

Saturday I'm leading some of the NorCal group on a century. Around to El Dorado Hills, Folsom, Auburn, Folsom, and back to start.

Bikes: Kirk Frameworks JKS-C, Serotta Nova, Gazelle AB-Frame, Fuji Team Issue, Surly Straggler

Tonight: 24mi solo out in the country to the east of my house. I LOVE being so close to rural country roads.

Tomorrow: Weather permitting, probably a 50miler with my club.

Sunday: probably 15-20 mi solo. Nothing too long, hopefully a few miles of that will be with my wife as we haven't gone out on the bike together in a while.

Monday: Club ride and cookout. Not sure where it is this year, I think I should probably go check their website for that here soon. They'll probably have a 40 or so mile ride that I'll likely choose. Maybe take the Gazelle A-Frame out and show it off (and it's old school Nuovo Record group). Oh, and show off that I can out climb most of them even using downtube shifters.

Bikes: Specialized Tarmac, Canyon Exceed, Specialized Transition, Ellsworth Roots, Ridley Excalibur

Racing twice on Saturday -- Cat 4 in the morning, 30+ 3/4 in the afternoon. Easy spin on Sunday, maybe I can convince the kids to ride to church with me.

Bikes: Three road bikes. Two track bikes.

Racing Sat: 60 mile road race. Track today. Lick my wounds Sunday and Monday with easy rides and skills work at the track (where I'm still a noob).

Saturday: I'm heading out for a 60-mile ride on a popular local and flat prairie route north of town here (Fort Collins to Rawhide power plant loop).

Sunday: 35-45 mile recovery/slow ride with my local bike club. They have not set a route yet, but I suspect that it will include some climbing in the local foothills.

Tomorrow I plan on riding from Pincher Creek up Chief Mountain and back, the loop is about 116 km. It's always an experience crossing the border on a road bike.

Going down to the American River bike trail and then up around Lake Natoma on Saturday.

Got a pair of real bike shorts, so now I can rock the moose knuckle.

Will probably do something on Monday too, but undecided.

Saturday: 50 mile ride to my local Particle Accelerator. It is called Fermi Lab. Will probably be crossing a river or two, with my local bike club. FUN FUN FUN.

Just a couple 19 mile out and backs near my house. On Monday I am pondering a rematch of a loop in the mountains I tried to do last year and was beaten down due to health issues. A shorter route of 50 miles with around 6000 or so feet of climbing.

Bikes: A few BSO's.

Tomorrow it's down PCH to Laguna Beach and back. 40 miles.

Sunday ride the cruiser down to the beach and watch the people that made the journey from the inland heat to stick their toes in the water.

I'm not riding Saturday or Sunday, but I might do a 95 mile ride out to Port Jervis on Monday.

Sunday, Monday- haven't decided.
Tomorrow- think I'll ride up to Richardson, and watch a bit of the Gary Glickman Memorial Criterium.

Bikes: Waterford 2200, Litespeed Tuscany, Salsa La Cruz, Kona Fire Mountain

Friday: 20-25 miles out to this new development where the airport used to be. miles and miles of brand new pavement, zero traffic, long, straight and flat. I was riding as easy as possible b/c I did 15 miles of interval stuff Thursday.

Saturday: nada. Swimming with the kids.

Sunday: 50-70 with the Violet Crown crew. No idea where or how far we're going.

Monday: undecided, but there is another VC group ride if I have anything left in the tank.

Note: I haven't decided on a computer/meter/whatever setup, so I've got nothing on my Waterford currently. I'm really enjoying riding without any information other than what my brain gets from my body, bike and surroundings. Plus the bars look so clean.

Bikes: zilch

I rode 50 miles to Morrow Mountain State Park, climbed to the top, and rode 50 miles back.

I did a 60 mile loop by the Chesapeake Bay. The hill workouts in Dallas were not much help and I had to hang on to the back of the group I was with the last 5 miles just to survive. It was a great ride though, and very beautiful.

Bikes: 09 Motobecane Grand Sprint and a couple others not worth mentioning.

Yesterday 58 very tough miles with a lot of climbing including a bunch of 10%+ sections, once my 305 claimed I was climbing 18%, certainly felt like it.

Today, went down on a MUP on a recovery ride... how embarrassing. I just didn't see that mud, got a little road rash.

Two more days to go.

Today 53 mile group ride, I like the guys who do the ride, but with no hills it lacks any challange and becomes, well, rather boring. When we finished up I did another 26 mile loop around some of the hillier terrain in my area and then got yelled at by the wife for 4+ hours on the bike
Tomorrow is a forced day off to help the wife prepare for our annual Memorial Day cookout.
Memorial Day I am hoping to get 65 miles in and around the roads of No Central Ma and So NH. Hopefully the weather will hold out.
