Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Half is generous. I once played an aleatoric piece that had me stomping the ground, hitting the music stand with my mute, and counting measures in seconds instead of beats. I'm as exploratory as anyone, but they didn't provide a bong or anything.

Yeah, I've played songs that required me to play a bird whistle while the woodwind section played crystal stemware tuned to certain pitches. Aleatoric is nothing new to me, and is actually favored by some school directors who figure if the song is meant to sound like ****, then the students can't make it any worse. Better than seconds is numbers, where the director holds up 1 finger and you repeat that "measure" (a sequence of notes with no set rhythm) over and over at your own pace until he holds up 2 fingers, signaling you to move on to the next "measure". Freaky stuff, but I'll admit that some of it speaks to me. Some doesn't. You should PM me your favorites and I can recommend songs to try... and some to avoid.
