Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I use my Quarq on 4 bikes. Good bike, backup bike, TT bike and Cross bike. It literally takes less than two minutes to swap as long as you already have a bottom bracket in the receiving bike.

1 8mm bolt and it's off.

in europe - specifically in the netherlands - you never see that 'buy your way to the top' mentality. most of my friends are perfectly happy with their gear.

even if they covet fancy schwag, they tend to spend their money on more worthy things, like trips to italy/france/spain to ride their bikes.

if PTs weren't so maintenance heavy, i would have picked one up ages ago.

incorrect.
Small sample size + generalization ftw.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from, but since I really only have one bike whose pedals I turn in anger anymore, I'll keep the power meter on that one so I can ride the other ones without sucking the fun out of it.

Me too. Two years. My parents were there for 10.

Not better, not worse, just different.

BTW...Eddy never used a power tap.

I stand corrected!

For me the decision came down to buy a nicer bike or buy a CAAD9 and get the cheapest PT. I'm an engineer so numbers are my cup of tea. Training with it has been eye opening as well.

It wasn't about latest and greatest.

I think many would still consider any power meter at all to be "latest and greatest." I agree, though, that using a PT was one of the best things I ever did for my training, and now that I'm back to being serious about it the Quarq will be in my future for the same reason.

why would you avoid buying something that is the most likely material thing to actually help make you fast?

seems like a no brainer to me.

Because a tool is useless without knowledge of how to use it. Or a dedication to actually use it.

The latter is why you won't find a Steinway in my living room. Or a Selmer Mark VI.

the reality is that riding with a power meter is more like having sex with an electrocardiogram, in that it takes the fun out of the whole enterprise and buffets you with data you don’t really need.

That rack in that outdoor catalog is a Saris product. Its the Mighty Max or Mighty Mate or something like that. We sell them at the shop.

Seems like good advertising to place some other examples of your product in your ads, no?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that both bikes in the ad are Treks.

EDIT: Ok, I can't tell what kind of bike that 'cross bike is, but the ad on the box features that same Trek 8000 but with a red Trek 5200. Thats probably way more detail then necessary, but I accidentally made my coffee twice as strong as normal this morning.

I threw the catalog away already, but the same PT bike was featured in a couple other bike rack shots as well.

imho Powertaps (and similar products) should cost $250 max. There is very little "special technology" in there.

$70 hub + parts
$15 strain gauge
$20 wiring + connectors
$10 brackets
$40 "computer"

Someone is getting RICH with these things
