I think this is my favourite thread!

It's really a "road behind" look since I had just ridden up it.

This is at the top of Bandy Canyon in the San Pasqual valley. That's the Wild Animal Park (Safari Park) at the foot of the hills in the background.

It will never be called the Safari Park, as far as I'm concerned. Just like how I will never call the Del Mar Fair the San Diego County Fair. It's just not right.

North County seems like a much nicer place to ride than East County and SD proper. I need to get out your way some time.

Yeah I feel the same.

One very cool thing about this area is there are very few cars at the right time of day. I don't think we had one car pass us the entire Bandy Canyon stretch.

it's a beautiful, über-low traffic stretch. prefer it heading east to avoid the ascent.

How long does it take you to get out that way from South Park?

just under 3 hours via pomerado rd/via rancho pkwy area, highland valley rd or the 78. it is the midpoint of a fairly rural 70 mile ride.

Had to find lower elevations today to get a ride in. Too snowy higher up. Not that a little dusting has stopped me before.

Of course, because it reminds you of what roads without snow look like! ;)

Actually, the pictures from NC are making me want to go back down there again. I did the Assault on Mt. Mitchell in 1997, and the Assault on Marion in 2006. Now if I can just get in good enough shape to do the Mt. Mitchell ride again...

Hmm...I guess I need to figure out a way out there from Del Cerro.

your best bet is friars to the qualcomm stadium bike path to murphy canyon rd. left on claremont mesa. right on ruffin rd which turns into kearny villa rd which will take you to miramar rd. from there, you can either take black mtn rd or head east on miramar rd which turns into pomerado rd. either black mtn rd or pomerado will get you into the rancho bernardo/escondido interface and from there, you can pick your way to bandy canyon.

you could also take hwy 67 north or wildcat canyon north but neither are recommended as they both have long ascents with too close for comfort buku traffic. i'll descend either but nope on the ascent.

Some really beautiful photos here. Really makes me want to explore the west coast this summer.
I don't have a very interesting contribution, but this is one of my favorite areas. (Greene Co, GA)

Tons of rolling hills, lake views and generally friendly drivers. :thumb:
