Garmin 705 Firmware 2.8 avail
Took a long time to load and I'm booting it as we speak. It nuked the whole unit. No warning. Back to factory zero.

That, and this, is B.S. The unit should work better than that. And I still seem to have issues.

I updated, it was quick, and the only think I noticed nuked was the Ant+ info. I had to answer 3 things about that and some time stuff.

Changes made from version 2.70 to 2.80:
Restructured activity logging to reduce the number of invalid TCX files.
Corrected issues from 2.70 that could possibly corrupt the 'History' directory.
Removed potential spikes in the power data after periods of coasting.
Increased the allowable digits in the 'vertical to point' field to 4.
Increased the allowable digits in the 'calories' field to 5.
Updated translations.
I'm a bit nervous to update after all the problems 2.7 caused

I'm holding off on the upgrade until after my stage race this weekend.

I'd just like to thank you beta testers for working out all the bugs, and paying for the R&D on the unit.
I trust that you'll have it all sorted out in time for the more affordable price point when ill probably get one.
Cheers boys

Last time I updated mine didn't save rides right till i did a hard reset. I wonder if this update will keep it from breaking mid ride and not displaying ascent or grade?

Upgrade took about 2 minutes. Several warnings that you'd lose history, not a big deal if you've saved it somewhere. My custom workouts and courses remained unchanged.
Not really seeing the problem here.

I had so many corrupted files with 2.7 that I went backwards to 2.6. I'm going to wait awhile before i "upgrade".

Mine upgraded fine. It erased the system prefs but left the profiles (user and bike) alone, so no big deal.
What it didn't do was clear the cruft (what looks like fragments of XML files) out of the History and GPX directories on the unit filesystem. Maybe I need to do a hard reset...

Sure would be nice if training center actually saved your rider data so you could restore it after an upgrade...
****, if training center were even half decent you would be able to program data fields and zones in it instead of screwing around with the unit itself.

The hard reset won't delete anything from the filesystem. You can just delete those using your computer.

I just went back to 2.6 today and had to reset all the display settings. Changing the firmware wipes out the history as well, so save your history first before hand.
2.7 was so bad... glad to see it go. Tech support didn't even mention 2.8 was out today, when they emailed me about the 2.7 problems.

Oddly, I can still copy files in and out of these cruft-filled directories (so the filesystem still works) but the mangled files themselves cannot be touched.
I guess I'm going to have to contact Garmin Support and see what they say.
