Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The Cypress is/was a mutant. And I mean that in the most respectful way.

You just started riding.

Give it time, you'll get there if you do it right.

I'm young and I don't think I've ever hit 40 in a sprint...

You left out internet forum speeds, which are 3-5mph higher than all the above.

But my 3 minute power is through the roof right now...

I'd love to see 40mph on the computer by the end of the season. Saw 38 earlier this year on the River Ride, but there was a wicked tailwind and some big horses pulling the train.

Your bike is getting worn out. Time to get a new one.

On one of the early season Hipp rides I can home and my max speed was 38 mph+ and I didn't even sprint. I'm guessing it came going down the little roller on Angle Road. I remember going over the top at 25+ mph and thinking .

What about a decent standing 300m, on open road, with gears? Top Speed and/or Time.

(Sorry if a little OT - thought it could be relevant to all + have a club event Saturday. Was going to do my own reasearch but this thread kinda presented itself )

I remember that ride..

The 40 was definitely at the end of Angle Road.. I was on Gary's wheel as he was sprinting.. I didn't pass him, but I didn't get passed.

Definitely depends on how long you're taking it.

25+mph for <15 mins if it's dead flat for me and I'm killing myself. 30 for brief sprints < 10 sec.

Once you go to an hour+, I drops to 22 and below, but there are usually hills to kill my pace at that duration.

Calling bull on this...

The top end is around lower 40's, without a motor pacing you above that. Maybe your "kid" should go race against Chris Hoy.
