What is it with CAAD9s?!?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: CAAD9-6

I bought it because only conformists buy Trek.

CAAD9 makes me different and unique.

The frame is $1,200 or you built a 14.9 pound bike for $1,200?

Bikes: ?

I bought a CAAAAD Optimo whatever the number was as my second road bike. (It was an R1000 of the 04 vintage).

Full 6600, no mix and match. You can't even get new a full ultegra bike in the $1100 price range anymore that I'm aware of.

That said, it was a nice bike- all the welds were smoothed and had been filled but it didn't give me the happy ending that everyone seems to get after riding theirs.

eh just another aluminum frame w/ CF fork...who cares. The only thing unique about it is that it's made in the USA (which IS cool but that won't even be the case in another year...)

Does anyone know how long we have to purchase a CAAD9 or any C'dale for that matter, before they go to Asia???

This is where C'dale will cease to measure up and go the way of the dino.
China only produces pure trash, junk, inferior products and the loss of "Handmade in the USA".

either get a cheapo handy bike or a super fancy luxury bike. caad9 is in limbo. no wonder they are phasing out.

No way no how are you going to have a fully setup CAAD9 that weighs 14.9lbs and only cost $1200.

The groupset that you need to put on a CAAD9 frame to make it sub 15lbs is about $1200 by itself. And you haven't even got into a light set of wheels, bars, stem, pedals, etc.

Let's not exaggerate the CAAD9 too much, shall we?

I believe he was saying that it could be made to be 14.9 pounds, he happened to get the caad9 7 setup which is not, but swapping components and whatnot could result in the small weight

I think this is why it's so popular on BF, everyone likes to think of themselves as a racer instead of what most really are, a recreational rider at varying levels of ability.
The main reason I picked up a Caad9 was to have an inexpensive frame to race with and not have to worry about crashing it. But I race very little so I can't say it's been a great investment.
My Caad9 still gets used, but I find it uncomfortable on any rides longer than 40 miles.

There are better bikes out to fit the needs of most BF members - but the hype of the Caad9 will trump other considerations such as fit and comfort.

I have a CAAD9-7 and i swapped out groupset, wheels, cockpit, and saddle. I'm still weighing in 17.9, I only spent $900. No way would another $300, save me 3lbs.

The $1200 was to get the bike. He never specified the price to get it to 14.9lbs; he merely stated it was possible. I don't know why this is being such a sticking point...

Because people don't bother the read the 3 or 4 posts pointing this out. They're too busy trying to be right.

so is the next darling of BF going to be CAAD10?

If so I need to start hating on CAAD10 instead.
