Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trek honors their lifetime warranty.
Great 'mass' brand IMO.
Chicks dig their well thought WSD models.
MTB's are getting better.
I enjoy Bontrager parts.
Shame about Klein...
I often send friends - who are seeking buying advice - to Trek. Safe for them and me.

As of yesterday's century, I've put just over 1600 miles on my '08 Trek 2.1. I have no complaints with the frame or the Bontrager components, especially my Inform RL saddle.

Bikes: Three road bikes. Two track bikes.

I've got a 2007 5.2 Madone. Ride it lots. Race it lots. Love it lots. Good bike.

Trek makes good stuff...as do almost all of the high end manufacturers. It's pretty unlikely that you would find any brand that has been in continuous business for over a decade to produce anything crummy. That said, there are significant differences in a $1000 road bike vs a $3500 road bike. But after that, the cost differential is mostly in components and wheels, which the bike manufacturers do not make.

I purchased a road bike back in 2004. There were very few choices for bikes made for women. After trying the three brands (Lemond, Bianchi?, Trek), I ended up with a Trek 2200.

The bike fits me well and I love it. If I had to replace it, I'd probably go for another Aluminum/105 class bike. It seems to be a good price point for quality vs lighter components.

Bikes: Trek Madone 5-Series Campy 10

My TREK carbon Experiences.

Hi All.

I recently got my 2010 Trek Madone 5-Series Project One Frameset (Black), and I put my Campy Record 10 Speed group on it. This frame was a warranty replacement for a 2009 Trek Madone 5-Series Project One Frameset (white). The 2009 Madone replaced a 2004(ish) 5900 that I got on Ebay and got doored. The 5900 replaced my 1995 5500 OCLV that somehow got a hole it the downtube.

The 1995 5500 (40th B-Day present to self) was so awesome because it was so different than my previous steel or aluminum bikes. It fit so well and was like an old friend. Great descender. I had the Saturn Silver paint on it. I would still be riding it if I hadn't got a hole it it. Rode it for 13 years.

The 5900 was okay, but i had gotten it used on E-Bay, with a new Trek paint job on it. I thought the front end was a bit on the twitchy side. Rode virtually the same as the 1995 5500. Rode it for 1 year.

The 2009 5 Series Madone was a revelation. Super light, rock steady front end but so shock absorbing and comfortable. Super stiff bottom bracket. So responsive. A perfectly balanced machine. I found what I think was a crack in it at the seat/top tube juncture, in the lug in fact. I got a brand new frameset (see below) from Trek. 7 months, this time.

The 2010 rides just like the 2009, of course. It's a Project One black paint job that I like for the most part. The drawback; The word 'TREK' can be found 16 times on the frameset. This is a wonderbike in my eyes. I can not think of ANY frame I'd rather own other than a 2010 6-Series or a Lynsky Helix (so sexy).

I like to buy American when possible, if it fits within my needs and desires, that's one of the reason I like high end Treks. Please don't start in with any debate over buying American. Thanks in advance.

I dont race, but I used to (badly, that's why I quit). Love riding centuries with my wife who can draft me and even pull a bit, herself.
