Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What do you recommend as far as food products that are good to have on longer bike rides?

If its a 100+ miles and I'm stopping at a gas station to fill up bottles, I'll pick up a cookie or candy bar

I eat a banana and drink water pre-ride, sometimes more stuff, just depends on what i'm feeling like.

What I've liked riding:
Clif Bars
Powerbar Gels
Peanuts
Babe Ruth candy bar
1/2 Gatorade, 1/2 Water mixed

What I don't:
anything too sweet (candy that's not nut-based)
full-strength gatorade
HEED (grossest, chalkiest stuff ever. ew)

post ride I make a smoothie, it has...1 cup yogurt, 8oz. Milk, 2 bananas, and sugar or honey. For protein, I make an omelet or eat leftovers of whatever is around.

Here in BF we have a special forum for questions just like this called Training and Nutrition:
https://www.bikeforums.net/training-nutrition/

Go there and do a search ... your questions have already been answered.

We also have a forum called the Long Distance forum. If you're talking about distances of a century or longer, that would be another place to ask the question.
