...unless you sincerely think what you said was constructive, in which case you're also pretty stupid.

I fell two weeks (three?) ago at a red light.....barely left the apt complex!!!! I was ticked at myself for missing the curb.
right forearm was bruised and sore, some scraps on my hand (nothing bad, few layers of skin missing, that is better now). The worst part was I hit my head and damaged my helmet causing slight concussion.....though my attitude around the house has improved so the wife is enjoying me post fall. So some falls can be good?

Fresh Garbage
I fell squarely on the edge of my femur by my hip. It was painful to bare weight on the leg, but I managed to ride home taking it easy.

You've stumbled upon umd's personal bugbear. He has a sixth sense drawing him to threads about falling with clipless pedals. He makes the same point in every thread, but never seems to tire of beating his head against the wall. He says he's moved on, but he never actually does.
Peruse some of the posts in these search results (not all apply, but many do):
https://www.bikeforums.net/search.php...=6789699&pp=25
As soon as I clicked on this thread I laughed because I knew how the rest would go. It's like a finely tuned, if repetitive and tiresome, machine. If you're ever on vacation, umd, I could probably fill in for you. I think I've got it down. Or I can copy and paste from any number of older threads if you want to keep it 100% genuine.
(speaking as one who never falls in his clipless pedals, and can come to a complete stop with no warning and not fall - and even enjoys it - as did the kid who I did not run over today when he cut in front of me without looking)

I fell once on my first road bike and once when I got them for my mountain bike. Didn't get hurt as bad as you, but hurt none-the-less. Mountain biking was worse as I fell on some roots and was a good 10 miles from the car. Throught I broke my arm, but turned out I was just a wimp. It happens.. You'll probably not do it again though.

Uh, no. Unlike some, you'll notice I don't live on these forums. But it doesn't take much time to make this observation.
Although, I will add this, unreservedly. I thought the way you addressed pretty much the same situation on this thread (Clipless Pedals Query) was head and shoulders above your usual work on this topic. I came upon it only after writing my post above. Very well done, sir. Helpful and useful and completely lacking in snideness. I'm sure some people will benefit from it.

I think that for some pedals (such as speedplay), the unclipping motion is more natural and you are more likely to be able to unclip in a "panic" situation.

If you think I especially target threads about clipless pedals you are sadly mistaken. I don't "live" on here but I post a lot and a very small fraction are on this subject. I find it amusing when people assert that it is a foregone conclusion, and generally dislike absolutism whatever the form.

Agreeing with pdedes, although I suppose it would be better to call it "direct impact" instead of "pure impact". I injured my elbow (they thought it was broken for a couple days, then decided it wasn't) falling at about 8 mph when I stupidly took my hands off the bars on a cambered road. I've also crashed at about 25 mph and only got some road rash.

Never put an arm out when falling on the bike. Never ever. Take it with a shoulder, side, or the handlebars, whatever. I automatically shoot out a leg if i can, otherwise just let yourself fall onto that shoulder.

OP said elbow, which in the case of a sideways roll, does not need an arm to be put out at all. Same for me, and at least in my case, I fell over so quickly that there was no time to make a decision anyway.

I broke my collarbone landing on my shoulder like that. Contrary to popular belief you do not need to stick your arm out to break something. Depending on the fall sticking your arm out could lessen the impact. See above about absolutism.

Didnt your poll establish that "most" people do?
Well, unless there are some forms of absolutisms that you can tolerate, even the above belief is an absolute one.

Put my arm out once to break a fall (caused by dog in this case, not stupidity) and my little finger ended up pointing east and west. Rode to the doc that way and it was fun waving at people. Point is, there is no good way to fall is there?

I don't recommend landing on your shoulder. My left shoulder has a grade-3 separation now from that. I landed on my right shoulder a couple of weeks ago, and had a fractured clavicle.
Hmm, maybe I should just stop "landing" on stuff...

These posts are funny. Forget where to and where not to fall. I recommend not falling in the first place.

My poll established that there are a large number of people who haven't (I think it was running nearly 30% last I looked), and that there are various interpretations of "most".
I did say "generally"
The best way to fall is like urbanknight here... he landed on his feet in the far right of the picture
Unforunately I was right in front of him, his bike hit mine, and even though I had managed at first to avoid the guy who had gone down, urb's impact with me knocked me over. I got out of my pedals but was falling on top of the guy so had nowhere to put it. So it was a slow speed tipover of sorts, and you can see in the picture my arm sticking out slowing the fall.
