Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

CONTEST-guess what bike this is and win some DeFeet socks

Guess This Bike Contest

I went up to my attic and brought down an old bike I have that I want to clean up and start riding again.

I am going to give away three pairs of DeFeet Black Flame (med/lg) socks. The first person who answers one of the three questions, gets one of the pairs of socks mailed to them.

Here are the socks:

Here are the three questions:

1) Brand of frame
2) Model of frame
3) Year the frame was manufactured (within a year or two-to the best of my knowledge)

You can just be the first to answer just one of the questions and get one pair of socks. If you are a bike Einstein and are the first to answer all three questions, you will get all three pair.

Rules:
1) You can answer all three questions in one posting. If you are wrong, you can guess again after two other people have guessed
2) You can't go back and edit a previous guess.
3) If you are a winner, I will acknowledge it on this forum thread, then send winner a PM to get your name and address.
4) Contest open to anybody from any country. If the socks go to a non-U.S. winner, I will mail them by airmail but will not guarantee delivery unless winner wants to pay for some type of trackable shipping.
5) I am 100% certain of the brand and model, but not 100% certain of the manufacturing year, but I am going with the year that I am pretty sure the manufacturer told me when I bought it.
6) I probably forgot some other necessary rule, so reserve the right to add additional rules if necc.

Bike info:

1) CycleArt did a repaint to the frame and removed some brazeons and added brazeons. Most, if not all of the brazeons are not original.
2) I bought the bike used, directly from the manufacturer who had supplied it to a sponsored rider, who was a national champion, but not a national champion of the country the bike was made in.
3) When I bought the bike, it had mostly a Zeus and Campy drivetrain (all since removed and replaced).
4) In the pictures, I blurred the serial number on the BB because it had a date reference.

Good Luck!!!

Here are the pictures

beeballman- You are correct that the frame is steel .....that wasn't one of the contest questions, but it is another clue that might help.

The answer lies in the rear triangle, ata the junction of the seat stays and seat tube, but I can't place it. Beautiful paint job tho.

I will take 1974 as a winning answer. Forum member jmpsmash you have won the 1st pair of socks--you will receive a PM later this evening requesting your mailing address.

I am certain that wasn't the exact year (because I bought the bike the first week of January 1974) but since I am not 100% certain of the year because the place I bought it from said it was used for 1 or two seasons before I bought it. My best guess is 1972 for the exact date (but still not 100% sure).

No correct Brand and Model answers.

Very unlikely this brand was in your local bike shop-you were probably more likely to see a Colnago in your local shop than this brand, but if you were an enthusiast at the time you probably were aware of the brand name.

The brand is still being made today
