Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2009 was a great year

-I realized that I just turned 40 and was starting to get a bit thick all over (actually it started many years ago)
-Bought a road bike in July and have put almost 3,000 miles on it (with about 150k feet of climbing)
-Started running (kind of hate it, but I'm still sticking with it), ran my first 5k ever with my wife and son
-Lost about 30 pounds and bought a bunch of new pants
-Everyone was healthy in 2009, it's been a great year.

2010 goals

-4,000 miles on the bike and 200 miles running (I'm sand-bagging on my biking goal at my current pace)
-Loose 5-10 more pounds - back to my weight in college
-Solo century (I think I could do it now if I had the time and could find a flatter course than my typical routes)
-Get my speed up a bit so I can hang with some of the groups that fly by me on the weekend
-5k run in under 25 minutes (I'm a really slow runner right now)
-Do some upper body and core work at least once a week
-Be a great father and husband (sorry for the cheesey hallmark comment)

I'm not proud of any accomplishments. I did however aim to continue riding thru wnter which I have done (and continue to do so).

2010 goals:
increase cadence to improve cv
do some more off-the-bike training (running and arm strengthening).
was thinking of increasing mileage, but not bothered. Will be happy with above two.
Would like to do one ride to Heathrow airport (about 30 miles from my place).
Take daughter (will be three years old on xmas day!) out on her two bikes.

Nothing else, I'm happy with life. Other 2010 goals are not cycling/training related. Oh yeah, and get on work on time

2009
I bought a power meter and learned that I suck.

2010
I plan to continue to enjoy sucking and documenting my suckage using my powertap.
