You guys have no soul.

F4UX3/2 12-25-09 11:05 PM

now you can nickname your bike the guillotine

nitropowered 12-25-09 11:29 PM

I've ran over plenty of snakes and ran into a small dog. Not sure if the dog made it

unterhausen 12-25-09 11:45 PM

I was descending a mountain and had a squirrel jump at my bike just as my crank passed him. I thought for sure he was going to end up in the rear spokes, but he missed somehow. My interpretation was that he thought he could land on the bike.

Got one same as you, decapitated it clean, barely felt it happen, but blood everywhere.

Have broadsided two deer. Last one looks like it may be costing me shoulder surgery :(

Turnin2 12-26-09 06:45 AM

I ran over an iguanas tail once. I was lucky not to hit it in the midsection-I would have gone over the bars. They can get pretty big- 30 to 35 pounds.
I hate those things.

pdedes 12-26-09 06:53 AM

best was when squirrel got into the spokes, did one revolution in the wheel and out the other side safely.

Take the remains to a taxidermist and have it mounted, you've earned bragging rights. Start a collection; "And I got this one with my Madone."

All humor aside, I can sympathize, I almost kissed a deer this morning.

i ran over a toad the size of a softball last week, it almost exploded my rim

After you have a squirrel do the tree rat ****z dance right in front of you when you're descending at 50+ MPH, you'll have a different view of them, too.

Now I know who is the culprit...

Thats why sharpening your bladed spokes is humane.

I'm sure all the guys in Belgium are looking forward to your arrival. ;)

At the very least they'll be looking for other wheels during the last lap of a kermesse.

HigherGround 12-26-09 12:05 PM

Last year on Memorial Day, a squirrel ran in to my front wheel while I was descending at about 35 - 40 mph. The impact sent me in to a speed wobble, but I kept the rubber side down. The squirrel, however, was eviscerated.

On Thanksgiving Day this year, I came around a bend to discover a deer standing in the road. That wasn't too bad, as it moved off to the shoulder fairly quickly. The problem was the other two deer on the other side of the road, who crossed to follow the first one. I had to slam on the brakes pretty hard.

I'm starting to reconsider riding on holidays.

I came within a few inches of running over a seagull,on the downhill right before the torrey pines climb. My friend nathan was ahead of me and went left, around a small congregation of birds,i went right. One was startled by nate and ran right ,i did the skid swerve.
I think i would have won that one because i was riding and old 70's steel schwinn world.

I'm sure they're chomping at the bit.

They fry up real good.

And sometimes they play with electricity and fry themselves. I've been trying to find this picture ever since I saw your post. :D

Good reason not to have those paired spokes...the distance between says "please jump in here squirrels!"

Not just squirrels. We had a rider go down hard from a small branch that got kicked up by another rider's wheel. Slipped right through the big gap, wedged in the fork, "fall down, go boom." Not pretty.

(not me)

I wonder if Trek is going to warranty that.

MR6690 12-26-09 07:31 PM

happened to me over the summer too. Was with another rider side by side, ran right in front of his wheel and straight into my spokes. Made some funny noises then got shot out the same side it came in, dead as dead could be. At first I felt bad for him but then I got thinking about it and that could have been one hell of a crash if he didn't somehow manage to get ejected from my spokes. I was counting my lucky stars . . .

nahh 12-26-09 08:02 PM

Happened to me, except I did an endo going about 15mph and tore some stuff soft tissue and ligament in my elbow. took a week before I could do much of anything, and well over a month before I could ride. sprinting still feels squirrelly.

Why bother? It'll buff right out. :D

Your comment about sharpening the spokes reminded me of the Spinnegy Rev-X wheels that magically transformed in to Cuisinarts during crashes. A squirrelly rider on Rev-X wheels usually got some extra space in the peloton. (Nope, I never used them...)

Would look impressive over the mantle
