Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cold Cold and more COLD for FL!!

Well, it has been no secret that most of the US has been hit by a cold front over the last week or so generously donating tons of snow in some places and tons of cold in some unusual places like FL. For the past week, temps at night have been consistently in the 30'sF. That is as far down as Miami!!!! This morning, my wife was doing the Disney Marathon. A very very popular winter marathon in the country given average temps this time of the year are in the very low 70's and 60's at worst. She woke up this morning to head to the starting line with another 19,999 or so people and it was 30F with 10-12 MPH winds making it feel like 22F. It certainly got better as the day went on hitting a high of 39F. She finished, but the entire time was miserable since she never warmed up and ended up wasting about an hour trying to warm up in 15 min intervals in bathrooms

I can do riding in the low 40's and will even do mid 30's with no wind, but the wind has kept me pretty much off the bike for nearly a week. I keep telling myself my daily mantra: MUST NOT BUY A TRAINER, MUST NOT BUY A TRAINER, MUST N.........

hmm, would you like some cheese with that whine? in all honesty, i'd kill for mid 30's weather as it would mean no ice on the road. just get some warm jacket & you'll be good to go

PA? What happened to Peoria? Should I presume it was Peoria, IL?

It was 9 F the last 2 mornings here in Texas (just west of Austin), very cold for this area. I did 45 miles yesterday and 60 today, no big deal. I don't know what all you people up north are always whining about.

I guess I should mention that it hit around 40 by late afternoon with light winds and not a cloud in the sky.... Really nice riding actually, I just decided to wait until after lunch for it to get into the 30's before I started.

the problem is that us floridians don't own winter clothes and i'm not going to go buy winter cycling clothes because it'll probably wont get this cold here again for a loooong time. so yea.. we'll whine about it lol. the days its been in the 40's and 50's i've been commuting though in jeans and a tshirt with no problem and riding the road bike at night in shorts and a jersey.

You know, just because it is colder where you are doesn't make it warmer here. I just want the cold gone, otherwise what good is it living here? I might as well move to Colorado!!!

Wimped out this morning. Really needed to do the Penny Farms ride. 80 mile hammerfest. But with a starting temp in the 20's and a windchill never out of the 20's, opted for the trainer instead.

With as cold as it has been all week, most stores with anything but shorts and t-shirts look like they did in New Orleans after Katrina went through!!

Waited until the temps got into the low 40's today for the ride. Tonight will be the last cold night, with a gradual increase in temps all week. Bring it on. The pics and temps in Calif sure do look inviting.

15 degrees or colder Saturday & Sunday am. Cloudy & windy makes for a nice 'Feels like' temp of about 8 degrees.

But feel free to continue complaining...
